Today, we join Volunteers everywhere in mourning the loss of a Tennessee icon.

Dolly Parton was East Tennessee through and through. Born and raised in Sevier County, she carried the spirit of our part of the world with her wherever she went. In 2009, the University of Tennessee awarded Dolly an honorary Doctor of Humane and Musical Letters, one of the highest honors the University can bestow.

But Dolly’s reach extended far beyond Tennessee.

Her Imagination Library began in Sevier County in 1995 with a simple goal, put books into the hands of children. And that East Tennessee idea found its way here to Philadelphia.

Today, Dolly’s Imagination Library serves children across our region, including over 4,000 children in greater Philadelphia communities since 2023. Thousands of books, mailed directly to children, because a woman from the mountains of East Tennessee believed every child deserved the chance to dream.

Today, we remember an artist, philanthropist, East Tennessean, and honorary Vol whose impact reached all the way to our own backyard.

Rest easy, Dolly.

As we celebrate the first day of classes on Rocky Top, we’re thinking back to a special way the Philly Vols helped welcome the newest members of the Volunteer family this summer!

Members of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter leadership participated in UT’s “Welcome-A-Vol” program, sending handwritten notes and well wishes to newly enrolled Vols as they prepared to begin their Tennessee journey.

To all the new Vols starting classes today, welcome to the family. There’s a whole network of Volunteers cheering you on from Philadelphia and beyond.

Even on one of the hottest days of the summer, Philly Vols showed up in a big way to send our newest Vols off to Rocky Top! It was an evening full of new friendships, great conversations, helpful advice from our alumni panel, and the latest updates from the University.

To our newest Vols, your Tennessee family starts long before you get to Knoxville, and you’ll always have a home with the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter. Knoxville is calling. See you on Rocky Top!

UT Knoxville Alumni

Gettysburg native Tegan Kuhns was drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft on Saturday night, going to the St. Louis Cardinals. Kuhns played two college seasons for Tennessee Baseball!

He was rated as one of the top college pitching prospects in this year's draft.

The University of Tennessee Philadelphia Alumni Chapter is seeking alumni who are interested in being considered for future leadership opportunities within the Chapter.

As we look ahead to the coming year, we are working to identify Volunteers who are passionate about UT and interested in helping shape the future of our alumni community. A strong alumni board reflects the diversity of the Volunteer family, bringing together individuals from a wide range of professional backgrounds, experiences, industries, and perspectives.
