“They’re too young to remember the trip.”

Maybe. But research says they’re not too young to benefit from it. 🌵

Here’s 6 potential benefits of getting your kids into nature sooner:

1. Language development. New sights, sounds, and smells give children more to notice and more for you to talk about together. Early childhood research links varied outdoor experiences with communication and language skills.

2. Motor development. Outdoor spaces give kids different opportunities to move and explore. Research on outdoor play identifies them as places to practice developing motor skills.

3. Early learning. Babies are already comparing and making sense of what they see. Nature gives them a changing world to observe.

4. Sleep patterns. In a study of 56 babies, those who slept better at night had been exposed to more light in the early afternoon.

5. Immune development. Research shows early exposure to microbes helps shape the immune system.

6. Parents’ mental health. Research on activity in natural settings has found improvements in mood. The person carrying the baby benefits from getting outside, too.

They might not remember their first camping trip, but they’re not too young to benefit from it.

It’s time to step up the quality around here. 📷

About 99% of what you’ve seen on this page was shot on my iPhone. The other 1% came from my Nikon D5300, which has been with me for a lot of miles, trips, sunsets, and family memories.

Now the Lumix S1II is here. The Nikon has earned its retirement, and I’m excited to see what I can create with LUMIX.
