“It just keeps getting better.”
Backpacking will take you to amazing places and afford you experiences that day hiking or car camping just can’t match. There’s no artificial light, music, city smells, or honking cars. Instead, you’re immersed in your natural environment, forced to be present with yourself and looking to see what’s around that next bend in the canyon.
And in our experience, it only gets better the further we go.
Worth the effort
You spent hours driving to the trailhead, which is promptly followed by a hike filled with stream crossings, thick brush, and uneven terrain covered in boulders. You expend your final bits of energy building camp and making dinner, perhaps questioning the choices you made coming here.
But it all becomes of little concern when you’re enjoying a hot meal and looking over an alpine stream during this gorgeous Arizona sunset. That’s when you know you’ll be back.

NEW guided treks coming October 2026! Our expanded operating area includes routes in the Superstition and Mazatzal Wildernesses, as well as the Pleasant Valley Ranger District of the Tonto National Forest. This not only allows Backpack Arizona to showcase the diverse backcountry landscapes of our state, but also lets us provide year-round adventure opportunities!
We’re also launching a series of interactive single-day backpacking seminars that will take place on an actual trail. This will give people the opportunity to learn how to prepare a pack, set up camp, try out some gear in a backcountry context, and whatever else you hope to learn in order to feel confident getting into nature!

We had so much fun teaching our backpacking 101 seminar for women last week! Big thank you to Jon Mincks and the Arizona Hiking Shack team (Arizona Hiking Shack) for making this event possible!

Christmas card material
Guiding new parents into the backcountry with their 10-month old daughter wasn’t considered possible when I started this agency, but it turns out my imagination was limited.
From the moment we connected, I could tell Anne and Kyle were serious about making this trek happen, and understood what being prepared meant.
It was a true privilege witnessing a family come together to problem solve and immerse themselves in the profound beauty of nature.
What a way to live!
