This weekend marks 5 years of cosplay co-hosting at Steel City Con for me 💛 Half a decade! It was hard to pick just 20 photos for this post. I’ve made a lifetime worth of memories working this show, through laughter, tears, and every emotion in between. I’ve met so many wonderful people through this con, including many of my childhood heroes! But most importantly, are the dear friends it’s brought into my life. I met Samurai Jill 5 years ago at the August 2021 show, on our first day co-hosting together 🥹 that legitimately changed the trajectory of my life! I am forever grateful this opportunity brought us together. Looking forward to celebrating with you all again this weekend!

SPIDER-MAN BRAND NEW DAY REVIEW! (Spoiler-free!)

Tom Holland has finally evolved into the Spider-Man I’ve been waiting for him to become. And while I wish they would have leaned in even harder on the mature and moody Peter Parker, I’m just so dang happy to see an incredibly colorful suit swinging around New York City for the entirety of this film. He’s not running around D.C. or Venice, or living in the wake of Tony Starks shadow. He’s Peter Parker, just trying to get by.

I was weary going into this one regarding all the cameos. But every ancillary character felt like they fit in naturally with the story, and I was pleasantly surprised by Punisher in particular. All of that being said, I do wish this story spent less time wrapping up loose ends from other films while also unnecessarily lining up new stories for future films. There’s a fantastic, one-off story right in the middle of this movie, and it suffers a little from having to be tied into the greater MCU, which is something I’ve always been critical of with the Holland films.

My last recommendation when it comes to this film: HOLY CANNOLI, you NEED to see this in 3D. 🤯 I cannot overstate how amazing the web swinging was in 3D. Of all the Spider-Man movies, I genuinely think this one captures the web swinging the best, and I was legitimately getting a little vertigo from some of the views when Spidey was looking down. 🫨 I’m actually shocked they aren’t promoting 3D more for this film, because it’s incredibly effective. And I say that as someone who largely doesn’t prefer 3D - I typically hate when it’s essentially used as a gimmick in a film.

Overall, I wouldn’t say this film hit the emotional heights of the first Tobey movie, or Amazing Spider-Man 2, but it’s a major step up from Holland’s previous iterations, and leaves me with hope for what’s to come. 🕷️

PS: instead of doing a cosplay for this one, I was inspired by Zendaya’s red carpet retro Spidey tee dress! This shirt I’m wearing is circa 2003! 😵

I’m seeing Spider-Man Brand New Day tomorrow! (shhh no spoilers! 🤫 — I’ve somehow avoided them and need to until tomorrow! 😆)
