Back on the Mat PT
I help BJJ/combat athletes navigate through injury to return AND perform on the mats
On another related note, stop asking other injured grapplers on what they did for their injury - FB groups and Reddit might be the worst place to go fishing for answers.
DM me your question!
Traditional PT may get you back to normal life.
But what if your goal isn’t just normal life?
What if your goal is getting back on the mats and actually feeling confident when you roll?
That requires a different approach.
Ya boi David is working his way back from an ACL repair and we are assessing where his blind spots are by putting him through the pressure cooker, and we use this data to build a roadmap back to the mats.
Because being cleared for normal life ≠ being ready for jiu-jitsu.
If you’ve gone through PT but still don’t feel confident getting back on the mats, DM me ROADMAP and let’s figure out what’s holding you back.
STOP. GUESSING.
START. TESTING.
GET. BACK. ON. THE. MATS.

📣 ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣
I’m excited to announce that I’ll be partnering with my local high school football team as the team physical therapist!
Little-known fact: while martial arts has been a part of my life since childhood, I’ve always had a passion for the game, even to this day. Football is one of the greatest TEAM sports because every player has an important role to play and success depends on everyone doing their part.
Through this partnership, I’ll be providing physical therapy services to these high school athletes with the goal of elevating their health, fitness, and performance, both on and off the field.
I’m excited for the opportunity to serve this community, invest in these young athletes, and be part of their journey.
Here’s to a great season!
Let’s get to work Cleveland! 🏈
I’m NOT saying exercises are unimportant. But the reality is that rehab is far more complex and nuanced than doing exercises alone.
And if you’ve gone the DIY route before you might agree that you went nowhere fast.
DM me “REHAB” if you’re ready to stop guessing and start getting back on the mats.

My name is Dr Andy Moon, and I am Oregon’s only dedicated jiu jitsu physical therapy practice.
I am a doctor of physical therapy of 16 years and I exclusively work with jiu jitsu and combat athletes.
Why?
Because this sport is too complex and too important not to have a dedicated rehab provider.
Jiu jitsu and combat athletes deserve to be treated with specialized, inspiring care.
And that’s why I built Back on the Mat PT.
Not to be another physical therapy clinic.
But to be a place where grapplers can recover smarter, perform better, and stay on the mats longer.
If your goal is simply to be pain-free, there are plenty of options.
If your goal is to roll with confidence again...
You’re in the right place.
My mission is to serve my people, the jiu jitsu community, the best way I know how.
Back on the Mat PT = Built for grapplers.

Rehab roadmap 🗺️
Train tissues, not exercises.
Strengthening specific tissues (ligaments, muscles, connective tissue, etc.) in that position will not only improve tissue resilience, but may also buy you just enough time to work on your escape.
A rehab provider can help you dial in exactly what tissues were affected, but generally the first priority is restoring your range of motion - getting back full elbow flexion and extension ASAP.
One of the biggest mistakes I see?
Avoiding the exact position that caused the injury.
Instead, you need to progressively load into end-range extension so your elbow can actually tolerate those positions again when it matters.

Manmaker 3.0 || Discover Yourself
Three years in, and this tradition just keeps getting richer.
This weekend we wrapped up our 3rd annual father-son retreat, this time along the rugged, breathtaking Oregon Coast.
Our theme this year was “Discover Who You Are.”
As our boys prepare to navigate the next few years of high school, we spent intentional time exploring the questions that shape a lifetime:
What makes you uniquely you?
What are your God-given gifts?
What values will anchor your life?
Who are you becoming?
These conversations matter. Not because we have all the answers, but because we want our boys to know they don’t have to figure it out alone.
Fatherhood isn’t passive. Its about creating space for growth and walking beside our sons as they make the journey from boyhood to manhood.
We’re leaning into intentionality, trusting that weekends like these are laying down the bricks that will become unbreakable bonds for years to come.
Grateful for another year, another adventure, and another opportunity to invest in these young men!
