Foster's Beauties
A creative family business featuring original functional and/or sculptural art in wood and/or glass. She is currently learning how to knit.
We are a Creative Family Business, specializing in handcrafting functional and sculptural art in wood and/or fused glass. All our products are made in our Philadelphia-area home art studio, featuring three kilns, a lampworking area, a coldworking (glass) area, two lathes and many, many other woodworking tools! All of our tools are hand controlled and guided by our own eyes and experience: No computer numerically controlled production in our studio! Scott is an expert woodturner, who makes magic on the lathe. He designs and handcrafts segmented and solid wood bowls using a variety of domestic and exotic woods. He also loves to work with glass, and is always looking for opportunities to meld his two passions. An electrical engineer in his day job, he loves the creativity and freedom he has when he creates in the studio. In his free time, Scott roller skates competitively, and brought home two silver medals from the 2015 national figure roller skating championships. Aviva combines kilnformed and flame-worked glass to make one-of-a-kind pieces. Since her first lampworking class in 2013, she has been mesmerized by the sight of molten glass and jumps on the torch at every opportunity. In her free time, she can be found reading science fiction and historical novels on her Kindle. Ellie, age 18, works with both wood and glass, and her latest passions are watercolor lettering and pyrography on woodturnings. When she isn't making art, Ellie is busy between competitive roller skating, saxophone and piano lessons. During her rare downtime, she can be found picking out pop songs on her keyboard or with her nose deep into one of the many books she carries with her everywhere. She plans to attend university in the Netherlands in Fall 2023 studying psycholinguistics. Together, the three of us make up Foster's Beauties.

A Greek holiday we took this year is inspiring some new beauties in the woodshop that will be debuting this fall and next spring.
Currently in finishing is our take on the famous Ancient Greek pottery known as The Pomegranate. Our version is a segmented wood vessel that combines Scott’s artistry with Ellie’s Our version is intentionally less patterned so the beauty of the tiger maple grain also gets a chance to shine.

This colorful beauty is also making its debut at the American Craft Made show this weekend at the Baltimore Convention Center. The rainbow colors will add a pop to any room while the natural wood tones add a bit of elegance to balance things out. The carved squiggly lines were also burned in to add a little bit of textured depth to make them pop.
Be sure to stop by booth 952 to say hello if you make it to the show, and we (and the other 400 fine craft artists) hope you will! This is one of the most amazing shows we've ever been to, and I don't say that lightly. The Craft Council does an amazing job jurying the show so it has something to delight every attendee.
