Locals Corner – Hell Bound Pound – “Fences”
A friend of mine suggested I check out Hell Bound Pound – a skate/speed punk band from Richmond, CA. The band’s music is high-energy punk rock and that is a good thing. The guitar work in “Fences” is a bit out of the ordinary – it is still manic and distorted, but the tone and effects on it reminds me a bit of “I Ran (So Far Away)” which is pretty cool.

Cut of the Week – Extreme - “X Out”
“X Out” is on Extreme’s sixth studio album, cleverly called Six, and it definitely stretches their sound. Nuno and company have gone from Van Halen wannabes on Extreme, funk-metal, straight ahead rock, and wherever they are now. Nuno is an amazing guitarist, not only for his creativity and leads, but much like his idol, Eddie Van Halen, he is a very talented rhythm player. Listen to any track from Pornograffitti, and there is the proof. I dig this track, and it is cool to see them continue to grow as a band.

Happy Friday everyone!
Most musicians get burnt out on practicing with a metronome, but it is super important. Especially when playing a line like this melody in octaves with another guitarist. This is what I do to keep it from becoming boring, and to keep me honest about where I am. Do you all like using a metronome? Please let me know in the comments, and have a great weekend! T/A

Locals Corner – Ingrown “Enemy”
From the Boise hardcore scene, Ingrown has been around for a while, and it shows. Tight hardcore with a definite metal – one might even say death metal, tinge. Enemy is off their full-length album “Idaho”. Crushing riffs, growling vocals, and short and to the point. This may not be for everyone, but they do crush it.
