Locals Corner – The Alpha Complex – “Bad For You”

A self-described modern hard rock band from Sacramento, Ca, The Alpha Complex blend modern hard rock, industrial, and orchestra elements into their music. The singer does a great job, as does everyone else in the band. Their sound reminds me of elements of Linkin Park, Evanescence, and other nu-metal groups of the early 00’s. That is not necessarily a band thing, and they do it well.

Operation Mindcrime – in my opinion, Queensryche at its best. The DeGarmo/Wilton guitar team was awesome, and really complimented each other. Empire may have been Queensryche’s commercial peak, but Mindcrime is the band at their artistic best.

Wow, I had no real expectations or preconceived idea what this Salem, Oregon band would be like. But this track from their Bridge City Sessions, well session, is pretty damn cool, and while sounding familiar, it is something uniquely its own. Great musicians and talent for sure. Check them out.

I saw this scene the other day, and was lucky to get a few pictures. Mama was giving the marching orders to 9 ducklings while dive bombing me, crows, and everyone else in the vicinity. The message was clear...stay away from her brood as they went for the water. Pretty cool! Have a great day everyone!

Cut of the Week – Monster Magnet – “Negasonic Teenage Warhead”

One of my favorite albums of all time, there really is not a bad track on it. Back in the Oughts – a beer company, Pabst maybe?, did a secret concert series with “big” bands in small clubs. Monster Magnet played the Ash Street (RIP), if I remember correctly on the second iteration of the stage layout, and had two full Marshall stacks on stage! Good times!
