Youth Film Program

🎬We cut to the chase last week at our Fall Editing & Visual Effects Session!

First-time editors learned DaVinci Resolve, the industry-standard editing software. Returning filmmakers dove into advanced visual FX: green screen, chroma keying, compositing, and color correction to drop a character into a medieval fantasy world.

EVERYONE got to be a superhero! We filmed the whole class, and each student used their new skills to give themselves super and magical powers.

Our FINAL SESSION of the year begins FRIDAY Oct. 30th! Apply now at The Youth Film Program website

Week three of our advanced camera and lighting session was focusing on "Leveling Up". The diffrence between a talented amature and a professional is: Professionals Plan.

Our students took a deep dive into the world of Previsualization (Previs). Creating storyboards using illustration, photography, and advanced 3D software to visualize a scene, and then film it for real, attempting to recreate their storyboards in-camera.

During week 2 of our advanced camera and lighting fall class, our Youth Film Program filmmakers had a chance to create some dynamic scenes using the moving camera. Students practiced the art of filming handheld to create dynamic portraits, learned how to use our Easy-rig steadicam packpad and Ronin Cinema camera to create fluid long takes, and we also attempted several "impossible shots" using clever camera hand-offs to create continuous camera movement through gates, windows, and going seamlessly between the inside and outside of a car.

The first Youth Film Program fall class was incredible! In our advanced Camera and Lighting class, students were given access to our RED cinema camera, and gained experience using follow focus systems, camera sliders, actor marks, and camera dolly moves. We workshopped three different shooting scenarios with distinct challenges, and the students got to show off their talents in front of, and behind the camera!

Our advanced cinematography and lighting class starts FRIDAY at the Youth Film Program studio! Our full fleet of cameras and a bunch on new gear is available for this 3-week class! (Fridays from 4-7p after school. We have THREE spots left!!! Apply now at www.youthfilmprogram.com

School is back in session this week, and to celebrate, we're premiering the last Summer FIlm: PICTURE DAY.

Featuring a hilarious cast, and sharp editing, this comedy is about being over-prepared and persistence, even if it drives you a little bonkers. Picture Day earns it's place in history, being the very first Youth Film Program film that premiered during our inaugural Red Carpet Screening event in Prescott Valley, back in 2025.
