Evelyn College for Women, an independent college founded by retired Princeton professor Joshua Mcllvaine ’1837, opened Sept. 28, 1887, in a house on the Kings Road a mile from campus, accommodating 50 boarders and 20-30 “day scholars.” Economically distressed by the four-year Panic of 1893, Evelyn closed its doors in 1897 and all records disappeared.
“Postcards to Alumni” is a collection of monthly digital postcards featuring unique facts about Princeton’s history. The postcards were introduced in December 2022 by the Alumni Council’s Princetoniana and Communications and Technology (CAT) Committees, who collaborated on the project.

Kaiyu Guan *13, the Stuart L. and Nancy J. Levenick Professor at the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign, and Princeton University professors Ellora Derenoncourt and Elizabeth Ellis have been awarded 2026 MacArthur Fellowships.
