NorCal Buzz Sports Network sweep

Updated Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026. Times are Pacific. The weekend window is Friday–Sunday, Sept. 18–20.

Top stories

1. Unbeaten Central Valley visits unbeaten Redding Christian. Both are 3-0 after Central Valley beat Etna 52-41 and Redding Christian handled Maxwell 46-7. Redding Christian’s MaxPreps page reports an 18-game winning streak. This is the weekend’s strongest local matchup—but kickoff is disputed: MaxPreps shows 7:30 p.m., while Central Valley’s Hudl schedule shows 7 p.m. Verify with Redding Christian before publishing a time. Central Valley · Redding Christian · Hudl

2. Four coverage-area football teams remain unbeaten: Shasta, Enterprise, Central Valley and Redding Christian are each 3-0. All of this week’s listed high-school football games are regular-season, non-playoff contests; most are designated non-league in their schedule feeds.

3. Simpson football plays its Frontier Conference opener. The 1-1 Red Hawks visit Mayville State for the Comets’ Farmer’s Bowl/Homecoming game Saturday. Both schools show 2 p.m. Central/noon Pacific at Jerome Berg Field. The Frontier schedule displays 1 p.m., apparently a timezone conversion, so Simpson’s and Mayville’s local-time listings are the safer references. Simpson · Mayville State · Frontier Conference

4. Shasta College takes a 3-0 record to Chabot. The Knights are officially listed at 3-0 overall, 2-0 conference and 3-0 in-region. Saturday’s game is at 1 p.m. at Mt. Eden High School in Hayward, confirmed by Shasta, Chabot and the 3C2A listing. Shasta College · Chabot · 3C2A

5. University Prep and West Valley lead the volleyball story. MaxPreps currently ranks University Prep first in the Northern Section and West Valley second; West Valley is listed at 16-2. Those are MaxPreps rankings—not CIF playoff seeds.

Today: Thursday, Sept. 17

The following varsity volleyball games appear in current MaxPreps schedule feeds. None had a fully independent second source available in the public sweep, so confirm with the host school before air or publication.

Anderson at Corning 6:30 p.m. Anderson listed 5-12

🏈🏐⚽ NORCAL BUZZ SPORTS NETWORK
WEEKEND SPORTS WRAP
September 7–13, 2026

The pads were popping, the goals were flying and several North State football teams kept their perfect seasons rolling. Let’s talk ball! 🔥

🏈 FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

SHASTA 42, YREKA 7

The Wolves took care of business on the road and improved to 3-0. Shasta has now outscored its last two opponents 84-13. That’s complementary football—an offense finishing drives and a defense refusing to give up cheap points.

ENTERPRISE 42, LASSEN 27

The Hornets are also 3-0 after surviving a tougher road test in Susanville. Enterprise has scored at least 42 points in every game this season. The offense has plenty of horsepower, but the Hornets were forced to play four quarters this time.

CENTRAL VALLEY 52, ETNA 41

Homecoming turned into a full-blown shootout in Shasta Lake! The Falcons improved to 3-0 and have scored an eye-popping 182 points through three games. CV can light up a scoreboard, but allowing 41 points gives the coaching staff plenty of film-room material before next week’s heavyweight matchup.

REDDING CHRISTIAN 46, MAXWELL 7

Different week, same result for the Lions. Redding Christian improved to 3-0 and extended its winning streak to 18 games. The Lions have scored 151 points while allowing only 25 this season. That’s dominance on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

ANDERSON 43, LIVE OAK 7

The Cubs found the end zone early and often, bouncing back with a convincing road victory. That’s the kind of complete performance that can change the direction of a season.

WEST VALLEY 14, DEL NORTE 8

This wasn’t a track meet—it was a street fight. The Eagles leaned on defense, protected the football and escaped with a gritty six-point win.

OTHER FINALS

• Del Oro 44, Foothill 6
• Gridley 34, Red Bluff 13
• Portola 20, Fall River 6
• Los Molinos 37, Trinity 36
• Rocklin 45, Pleasant Valley 0
• Jesuit 28, Chico 14
• University Prep received a 2-0 forfeit win over Mt. Shasta

🏈 SHASTA COLLEGE STAYS PERFECT

SHASTA 35, LOS MEDANOS 10

The Knights carried a 14-10 lead into halftime, then came out of the locker room and dropped 21 unanswered points in the third quarter.

That’s how you put a road game away.

The defense pitched a second-half shutout, the offense delivered the knockout punch and Shasta moved to 3-0. The Knights are playing with confidence and starting to look like a team nobody wants to see on the schedule.

⚽ SIMPSON UNIVERSITY SOCCER

The Simpson men opened their Washington trip by putting five goals on the board in a 5-1 victory over Walla Walla.

They followed that with a 2-1 heartbreaker against Northwest University. Ariel Perez-Aviles scored his first goal of the season off David Guerrero’s team-leading third assist. Goalkeeper Julian Mejia finished with four saves, but Northwest found the game-winner in the 83rd minute.

The Red Hawks closed the trip with a 2-0 loss at Evergreen State.

The Simpson women battled through two close matches, falling 2-1 at Southern Oregon before earning a 1-1 draw against Evergreen State.

Maylania Mikaele delivered the weekend’s highlight, breaking a scoreless tie in the 73rd minute with a strike from outside the 18-yard box. Evergreen equalized late, but Simpson still brought home a hard-earned road result.

🏐 ON THE VOLLEYBALL COURT

North State teams battled through a busy tournament weekend. Enterprise earned a 2-0 victory over Redding Christian, while Shasta pushed Aragon to three sets before falling 2-1 at the NorCal Invitational.

👀 WHAT TO WATCH NEXT WEEK

🔥 GAME OF THE WEEK: CENTRAL VALLEY AT REDDING CHRISTIAN

Friday, September 18 | 7:30 PM

Two undefeated teams. Two explosive offenses. Central Valley brings 52 points per game into Palo Cedro, while Redding Christian puts its 18-game winning streak on the line.

Something has to give. This one could light up the scoreboard.

Other games to watch:

• Shasta at Orland — Friday at 7:30 PM
• Enterprise at Oakmont — Friday at 7:30 PM
• Mt. Shasta at Anderson — Friday at 7:30 PM
• Shasta College at Chabot — Saturday at 1:00 PM
• Simpson volleyball at Cal Lutheran — Thursday at 6:00 PM

Foothill gets a needed week to regroup before returning September 25 at Lassen.

Coaches, parents and athletic directors: Send us your verified scores, player statistics and photos. We want to recognize the athletes doing the work when nobody is watching.
