Bread Riot
Eat local. Advocating for our local farmers and educating our community about eating local, healthy food. We support local and sustainable agriculture.
The Bread Riot is a gathering of like-minded people in Salisbury and Rowan County, North Carolina that come together to bring local food to local people. We respect the environment. 🫐💙 Fresh From the Farm to Our Clients! 💙🫐
This month, Meals on Wheels clients were delighted to receive freshly picked blueberries from Farmer’s Daughter Organics as part of our summer produce program!
Through our partnership with the Rowan Food and Farm Network, we provide clients with locally grown fruits and vegetables during the growing season. This wonderful program not only brings fresh, nutritious food directly to the seniors we serve, but also supports local farmers.
Thank you to everyone who helps connect our community's farms with our community's seniors! 🍇🌱🚚

This week’s Cookin’ at the Market recipe was a fantastic Carolina Low Country Shrimp and Corn Sauté. Chef Kelly used shrimp from Buddy's Seafood Market, sweet corn from Miller Farm Fresh Produce, cherry tomatoes from Downing Farms, LLC., and parsley and onion from Correll Farms LLC. Try this recipe for yourself using local ingredients like Kelly did! And be sure to join Bread Riot and Prepped by Kelly Renee’s for our next cooking demonstration on July 11 at the Salisbury/Rowan Farmers' Market.

It was a busy Saturday morning at our 3️⃣ Mobile Vegetable Markets! Folks who visited the sites went home with beautiful summer produce like tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet corn, zucchini, potatoes, onions and more. 🍅 🌽 🥗
Thank you to all our Mobile Market volunteers, farm partners, and the wonderful organizations that fund this program!
By expanding these donation-based markets to a third site this year, we are able to support more local farmers and bring more farm-fresh veggies to community members in Salisbury and Spencer! 🎉
If you have a couple hours free on Saturday morning, we’d love your help. A Bread Riot board member will be ready to show you the ropes. Visit www.BreadRiot.org/get-involved for more details.
