This is a 'Nakshi' Kantha
From a distance, Nakshi Kantha is a floral fabric with some texture.
But zoom in, and another story emerges — thousands of tiny hand stitches, patiently worked to create every petal, leaf, vine and curve.
Which is the result of extraordinary time and patience!

The Darning Stitch
Today we will see what is a Darning stitch –
Darning stitch is a variation of the humble running stitch (remember – part 1)!
However the fundamental difference between both is the purpose or functionality – when stitched in one direction, when the needle moves in and out of the fabric in a continuous line, like to make an outline or Joining, quilting, – its is Running stitch
But when used to fill an area, make patterns, creating a denser continuous patterned area, it is transformed into what is called a Darning stitch.
Traditional Kantha is fundamentally associated with running stitches worked through multiple layers of cloth. But artisans bring in more innovation to that basic running stitch in different ways by changing
1)stitch length, 2)spacing, 3)direction and 4)density—to create motifs, shading, borders and textures.

So many people knew the word Kantha —
but weren't quite sure what a Kantha stitch actually was.
So let's start at the very beginning.
The Running Stitch -
The DNA of Kantha is the humble running stitch.
In Bengal, this is often called 'Kantha Phor'.
These seemingly simple stitches can create the characteristic rippling, textured surface associated with Kantha.
But Kantha artisans don't just use the running stitch to hold layers together.
They use it to draw.
Lines of stitches can follow circles, squares, flowers, borders and other motifs — sometimes creating an almost sculptural effect on the fabric.
And this is what makes Kantha so fascinating!!💚💚

This Lohori Quilt took TWO YEARS to make 😲
The term “Lohori” refers to the wave-like pattern created by the stitches. Worked across the fabric in parallel rows, they produce a beautiful rippled texture that is both decorative and functional, strengthening and quilting the layers together.
This craft that has existed for hundreds of years, originally made by rural women using old saris and household textiles to create quilts, and ceremonial cloths, is slowly dying out as the future generations do not want to do this due to its effort and time intensive process.
We work with our artisans to preserve the relevance of the Lohori not only as a sustainable practice of reuse, but as a living cultural heritage — celebrating the magic of handwork, patience, and the artistry of everyday life.
Fellow founders — I hope every one of you gets a 'Daniella'.
And if you already have?
Drop it in the comments. I want to hear it
Founder talk...straight from the heart...
This isn't the first compliment our products have received.
It's the first one I had the confidence to capture and share.
For years, I let these moments pass because asking to record felt awkward.
Today I didn't.
Its not about the praise. Its about getting comfortable being visible.
One tiny step outside my comfort zone. 🤍
True Story!
Today I showed up to a market with a topless tent!
Outdoor markets have one non-negotiable rule -
White tent top! That's it. And I did not have it!
I had the frame. The legs. The tablecloths.
The tent top was in my garage!
There I was. Baking In the California sun. Fully exposed. Me and my topless tent.
Several frantic calls made to the husband who was on mile 12 of a long run. (Today. Yes He picked TODAY for that).
Husband drove Fast. Very fast. Questionably fast.
Assembled the tent — something I find genuinely impossible — and left.
Not one word about it.
This Ended up being our best market day EVER 🤩🤩
