Happy first day of the school year! Welcome to all new students, and welcome back to all returning ones. This week, our team participated in the first-gen and transfer student welcome event. Emma and Nafia spoke with undergraduate students about getting involved in research and science, and about the research that we do in psychology.

Our team goes to the Santa Barbara Zoo on weekends! Our students have fun activities for children that’ll help us understand how children think about other people. We’re happy to chat with families and educators about developmental psychology. If you’re going to the zoo, come say hi!

Congratulations to Jennifer Li on an amazing presentation to the McNair summer symposium! Jennifer presented her research on children’s understanding of different social actions. This summer, Jenny made stimuli for a new study, piloted that study at the zoo and over video calls, and analyzed the pilot data. The findings are exciting, and we’re looking forward to building on them together, when Jenny pursues an honors thesis!

This week, our team is presenting our work to the Society for Philosophy and Psychology! We’ve been finding that young children are sensitive to others’ perspectives when they share pictures and books with others: Children turn those pictures and books so that they’re upright to their social partners. Thank you so much to the children and families who participated in our studies!
