We’re often hardest on the very patterns that once helped us cope. Perfectionism. People-pleasing. Withdrawing. Staying endlessly busy.

Before calling one of them a flaw, try a different question: what has this been doing for me? Perfectionism can guard against criticism. Pleasing can protect a bond. Withdrawing can ease overload. Each one made sense, once.

Understanding a pattern doesn’t mean it gets to keep running the show. But it changes the question. Instead of “What’s wrong with me?” we can ask, “What was this protecting? Is there a kinder way to meet that need now?”

Which of your patterns makes more sense when you ask what it’s protecting? What might help it relax its grip?

There's an empty seat beside almost all of us — a place where support could sit, if we let it.

Many of us learned to handle things on our own. When life gets heavy, we withdraw, stay busy, or tell ourselves we should be able to manage.

But sometimes strength looks like letting someone sit beside us..
Who helps you feel more like yourself? What might it be liked to let them be a little closer this week?

Every year, our Awareness, Courage & Love Global community is amazed by what people are willing to share.

This November, as we gather to celebrate our founder Dr. Mavis Tsai’s 72nd birthday and support the ACL Global Project—we’re inviting you to be part of our silent auction.

What would bring you joy to share with our community?

A coaching or therapy session.
A workshop.
A creative experience.
A chance to teach something you love.

Last year, contributions like these helped fund leadership scholarships and strengthen a community connecting people across six continents.

If you have something meaningful you can offer online, we’d love to include it—and help introduce your work to people around the world who care deeply about human connection.

Please submit your offering by October 17.

Some places in our lives are forever out of reach — a childhood home, a city street, a lost love, a time when life felt simpler. We can never return. And yet those spaces still live within us, quietly shaping who we've become.

This Sunday, join Dr. Eugen Secara and Dr. Mavis Tsai for a live experiential gathering: Echoes of Places Lost: Finding Yourself in Spaces You Will Never Never Visit Again.

Together, we'll revisit the places we carry inside us — not to grieve what's gone, but to understand how they shaped us, and what they continue to teach us even in their absence.

📅 Sunday, Sep 13 | 🕐 10:00–11:30am PST | Zoom Livestream

🌍 Live Spanish & Portuguese translation. Captions in 50+ languages.

What might a place you can never return to still be trying to tell you?

Some truths are hard to say out loud. Sometimes they come more easily through color, movement, music, or words on a page.

Try expressing something real through creativity; no skill or talent required. The point isn’t the finished piece. It’s what surfaces in the making of it: the feelings, the thoughts, the parts of yourself that don’t always get seen.

Choose whatever medium feels most freeing, and let go of judging the outcome. Then notice what you learned about yourself along the way.

What might you discover if you let yourself create without judgment?

We all wear masks — a version of ourselves for work, another for family, another for friends. Some of these masks protect us. Some, over time, quietly cost us.

It can help to name the roles you play and the mask each one asks you to wear. What do you emphasize? What do you hide? And what might it feel like to set one of those masks down, even a little?

Removing a mask rarely happens overnight.

It asks for self-awareness, courage, and patience with yourself.

But each step toward being seen as you truly are can open the door to more genuine connection.

Which mask do you wear most often — and what would change if you loosened it?

What does it mean to come home to yourself?

Trauma can shape how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and what we believe is safe to feel or reveal. Healing may begin when we can meet our own experience with awareness and courage—and encounter love and acceptance in our relationships with others.

In her interview, “Coming Home to Yourself: Healing Trauma Through Connection,” our founder Dr. Mavis Tsai shares how authentic connection can help us reclaim parts of ourselves that fear, shame, or painful experiences have pushed into hiding.

Join Mavis and more than 40 other speakers for the complimentary Trauma, Addiction & Relationship Recovery Summit, August 31–September 4.

We come home to ourselves through relationships that are nourishing.

Trauma can distance us from parts of ourselves and make it difficult to trust that it is safe to be fully known. We need relationships in which we are deeply seen, accepted, and supported to reclaim what fear, shame, or painful experiences have pushed into hiding.

In her interview, “Coming Home to Yourself: Healing Trauma Through Connection,” our founder Dr. Mavis Tsai explores how authentic connection helps us feel safer being fully ourselves—and less alone with what we carry.

Trauma can leave us feeling far from ourselves—and unsure whether it is safe to be fully known by others.

Yet healing does not happen only within us. It needs to happen between us, through relationships where we feel seen, understood, and valued.

Our founder Dr. Mavis Tsai will explore this relational path to healing in her interview, "Coming Home to Yourself: Healing Trauma Through Connection"

The conversation is part of the complimentary Trauma, Addiction & Relationship Recovery Summit, hosted by Marcia Diane and featuring more than 40 speakers.

The summit takes place August 31–September 4. We hope you’ll join us.
