I really love chunky yarn, and quick knits - but what I had a hard time finding *specifically* was a chunky knit fisherman style Beanie. So I created the perfect pattern for myself ( and now you ) to whip up a very cute and cozy Beanie for the chilly fall days ahead 🍂

Using 15/10mm circular needles and a skein of extra chunky yarn you can whip one of these up in under 2 hours. Make one as a gift for your loved ones - or keep for yourself.

Our pattern is written for in Rasta - however we used Super Bulky as seen in this video and it’s a perfect substitute!

While I wrote this for the advanced beginner, I have heard it’s very easy to understand and follow along. You just need to have a good understanding of long-tail cast-on and knitting in the round. I also wrote the pattern in such a way that your rows will neatly line up while decreasing ( it’s a bit unique, but easy to grasp! ) so that the top looks perfect and it will sit nicely on your head.

Made in one-size, you can easily follow our modification to create a bit of extra height.

the Beanie season, forever and always 💫

so many new friends here: so i’m sharing some of my favorite things about the Beanie ( you might not know! )

• I hand make each on myself to order. I started knitting in 2019, made and sold my first Beanie in 2020 and have sold 1000+ all across the country since.

• we use 100% ultra soft merino wool. it’s not itchy, it’s super squishy, and the perfect accessory!

• they are great in the rain, don’t soak through and will keep you dry. much like a sheep stands in the rain all day - it will protect you from the elements.

• they are oversized with a ton of stretch - meaning YES they will fit 99% of heads. they won’t give you hat hair either.

• you won’t need to wash it! wool is naturally anti-microbial meaning - it will stay clean if you take good care of it.

• safe for those sensitive for wool - i’d say 9/10 people with a wool allergy have been able to wear and own our hats without issue! catch us at an upcoming event to try one on.

• our goal this season is to make and sell 500 ( so far we’re already 25% of the way there! )

Watch me wind a ball of yarn by hand - while wasabi “helps” 😆🙃 Since I buy all my yarn in wholesale bulk, it comes in a skein that I need to wind up in order to start knitting. I have done this by hand for 7 years - and while yes, owning a yarn swift would certainly make my life easier, I love this little trick on the back of a chair to wind yarn at home by hand. It takes about 3 minutes per skein ( maybe a little longer when wasabi gets in the way 😅) but it’s one step of the process that I find really soothing.

Handmade takes time. It’s just me over here knitting. Each Beanie takes about an hour and a half. In peak season, I try to make 3/day. Enjoy this little 60 second video ( with some nice ASMR and me yelling at wasabi “to get that out of your mouth” about halfway through )

somewhere along my blaksands journey, i’ve now become “the Beanie girl” and I’m totally okay with that. My hyper fixation of loving and knitting hats has helped me build a business I love.
