WeRideWhy is honored to have been selected to have our film screened at the The Seattle Film Festival taking place October 1-4 at the Tin Room Bar October 1-4. Our screening is tentatively scheduled for Friday, October 2nd at 6:30. For those of you want to see our movie on the big screen and were not able to attend previous Seattle screenings, here is your chance. On August 30, 1971, Judy Roth Passed away of cancer. 15 years and 9 days into the future, on September 9, 1976, Ashley Berg came into the world. Today she would have been 50 years old. Ash and her daughter, Piper Jenson, touched and changed my life. She touched a lot of people’s lives and still does. She is always loved by all who knew her and never forgotten. Happy Heavenly Birthday Ashley Autumn AKA “Sunshine Girl.” ☀️👧
Tonight Fred Hutch Cancer Center Obliteride kicks off at Gasworks Park tonight. Tomorrow I will be riding 100-Miles to honor my mother, Ashley Berg and others and to raise money for cancer research. Fred Hutch Cancer Center Obliteride Kickoff at Gasworks Park Getaway is less than 24 hours away. I am riding 100-Miles to honor my mother Judy, Ashley Berg and others. A special thank you to one of my best friends from Highschool and former soccer teammate, Matt coombs. 2 days until Fred Hutch Cancer Center Obliteride I have a goal to raise $2000,00 for cutting edge cancer research that actually save lives. They ACTUALLY make an impact particularly new treatments for pancreatic cancer which used to be an automatic death sentence. It isn’t now because of great work they are doing. I have toured the labs a few times. The folks who work at the hutch aren’t doing it because it’s their profession. They are in the profession because the care and are passionate about making a difference. Cancer impact EVERYONE. everyone has a “WHY” who is your “WHY”? I have been meaning to share this but I wanted to wait a few days. On Sunday, a friend of mine were on a bus just getting ready to arrive to the Seattle Center at around 6p to see a Seattle Premier of a film called A SIMPLE MACHINE - Feature Film which was playing at SIFF Film Center at 6:30p.
At around 6p I get a call from another friend who is sitting across the street and that shots have been fired and that people were scurrying out of the Seattle Center for safety. We got off the bus near the Center and folks were coming out letting us know what was happening. There was nothing coming up on my phone, no news just people leaving and obviously upset.
A few minutes later, I hear a flurry of sirens non-stop for the next several minutes. I was not sure what to do at this point. I walked around the Center and over to SIFF where it was peaceful, quiet and safe. I wanted to at least say hi to Mark Hoffman, the director who invited us and provided tickets. I can only imagine what it would have been like for him and his people.
I was not sure if the show would go on, to my surprise, the theater was full. I decided to stay, not only to support Mark but also for a respite of what just went down. I am glad I stayed to see the film.
A Simple Machine was a beautifully crafted story with a powerful social commentary on materialism, economic insecurity and how a simple machine such as a bicycle can be incredibly transformative. Every aspect of the film, the story, the actors, cinematography was exquisite capturing starkness and at times desperation in difficult times. I love real human stories.
After the movie was over I walked out to the empty Seattle Center, scanning the grounds, the debris and the moments frozen in time because of a senseless act. I also saw armed police in tactical gear throughout the Center holding Semi-Automatic Weapons.
I will never forget that day or the imagery. Within all of it, I still got to witness a beautiful film and meet some lovely people under difficult circumstances.
