Yesterday, June 12th was “Loving Day.”❤️
Loving Day marks the anniversary of the 1967 Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia, which struck down laws banning in*******al marriage in the United States.
For many, it’s a history lesson. For others, it’s deeply personal.
Mildred and Richard Loving never set out to become activists. They simply wanted the freedom to love one another and build a life together. Because they were willing to stand up against injustice, generations of couples and families have enjoyed rights and freedoms that once seemed impossible.
I often find myself reflecting on how much their courage changed the lives of so many people—including my own.
As someone fortunate enough to love and be loved across racial lines, I am profoundly grateful for the sacrifices they made and the barriers they helped dismantle. Their legacy is visible not only in marriages, but in friendships, families, communities, and the beautiful diversity of relationships that enrich our lives every day.
Love alone doesn’t solve every challenge, but it has an extraordinary ability to bridge divides, broaden perspectives, and remind us of our shared humanity.
So yesterday, today and always, I celebrate love. I celebrate progress. And I offer heartfelt thanks to Mildred and Richard Loving, whose quiet courage changed the course of history.
So, I may be a day late, hut I want to wish all of you a Happy Loving Day. ❤️

An extra-fun and wonderfully spontaneous trip to Sydney to surprise our awesome friend Matt for his 40th birthday!
What an incredible week it was—reconnecting with old friends, making new ones, nostalgically showing Rick all my favorite spots from my years recording and performing there, and, even more excitingly, discovering so many new bars, restaurants, and venues that are thriving across the city.
I even scouted a few performance spaces that I’d love to play someday, so a return visit may not be too far in the future!
The look on Matt’s face when we arrived unannounced at his birthday party was worth the trip all by itself.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made our short stay so special, especially Renee, Claire, Paul, Tim, Carolyn, Howard, Maxine, Piper, and our new friends Justin, James, and Michael.
And massive thanks to Simon for making the journey up from Adelaide to spend time with us.
Happy 40th Birthday, Matt! We love you.
And Sydney—we adore you.
If you’ve never been to Australia, put it on your list. It’s a truly special place. 🇦🇺🇺🇸❤️

Today marks one year since my miracle kid “Kevin” came to live with me.
Happy Birthday! Happy Anniversary!
What a gift, what a blessing.
I live everyday in a state of gratitude, with every breath knowing what a lucky, fortunate and loved man I am to have been given a new lease on life.
Thank you to everyone who lifted me up, supported me, and loved me through the ups, downs and uncertainty of this past year. You know who you are, and I hope you know how much you mean to me.
The patience, compassion, and kindness shown by all of my Mount Sinai doctors, nurses, surgeons, specialists, healthcare workers, technicians, phlebotomists, and even the hospital transportation staff cannot go unrecognized. With a grateful heart, I applaud and thank every one of them.
Rick, the unconditional and unwavering love you’ve given me throughout this journey has been remarkable—far beyond anything I could have asked for or deserved. There are no words that can even express how it has been to have you and your love by my side especially throughout these past 12 months.
You never missed an appointment. You came with me and stayed with me not only through surgery and my initial hospital stay, but every post surgery hospital visit, some which were very scary and frightening. You attended every consultation, held my hand through every uncomfortable, painful and unattractive moment, carried me, cooked and cleaned for me, and catered to my every whim and craving.
My angel, my nurse, my companion, my husband, and my lover—I am so thankful for you. “I love you to the moon and back” may sound cliché, but it’s the truth.
Thank you for your unwavering and unconditional love. Always.
As I continue to heal, grow stronger every day, and return to life—back to reality—I will remain forever humbled by this experience and profoundly grateful for each and every one of you. Even those of you that I only am connected to via social media.
And to my donor, my sincerest àːhôː (pronounced ah-ho, meaning “thank you”) for making the choice to give me your gift of life. With a thankful heart, I will honor, treasure and carry my gratitude to you, your family, your tribe and indigenous people with me always.

My incredibly talented Aussie friend Peta has now added “published author” to her already impressive list of artistic and professional accomplishments.
I’ve just received her debut novel, Tales from the Dangerously Independent, and can’t wait to dive in. I have a feeling it’s going to be a brilliant, insightful, and thoroughly enjoyable read.
