Uganda Village Project (UVP) was formed in 2003 to promote public health and sustainable development in rural communities.

Uganda Village Project empowers underserved adolescents and women in rural Uganda by advancing access to sexual and reproductive health education and services, alongside medical intervention. Through partnerships with Iganga, Bugweri, and Kiryandongo Districts, UVP supports community health by working closely with Village Health Teams and local leaders to strengthen ownership and increase access t

Community outreach doesn’t always happen in a classroom or community meeting, sometimes it happens where people naturally gather.

Our Fistula Ambassadors Rosemary and Mary joined staff member Judith at a burial ceremony in Kihuba, Masindi District, using this important community gathering as an opportunity to share information about obstetric fistula prevention, treatment, and the support available through Uganda Village Project.

By meeting communities where they are, our FAs help ensure that women suffering in silence can learn that treatment is possible and that they are not alone.

Thank you to our dedicated Fistula Ambassadors for continuing to find creative ways to reach women and families across Uganda.

Our Q2 newsletter is here!

Last quarter we hosted fistula repair camps at both Busolwe and Buluba Hospitals and supported survivors through our reintegration program, helping them prepare for a return home.

Our Adolescent Reproductive Health program has been busy delivering family planning sessions in schools, alongside reusable sanitary pad making workshops and community outreaches featuring friendly competition through bicycle racing and football matches.

Bringing community members together for a bit of fun and friendly competition through sport is how we encourage young people to attend our Adolescent Reproductive Health sessions. This week in Kiboyo village, they lined up for a bicycle race.

One of our favorite things to see? Boys and girls working together to sew reusable sanitary pads. At Nawanyingi Seed Secondary School, our ARH program is making menstrual health everybody's business and working toward normalizing menstruation in schools and communities.

At Countryside Secondary School, students in our Adolescent Reproductive Health program are learning to sew their own reusable sanitary pads, both by machine and by hand. This skill means girls can manage their periods with dignity, stay in school, and share what they've learned with others at home. 🧵

Our 2025 Annual Report is here!

222 women treated. 60 Fistula Ambassadors trained. Nearly 3,000 adolescents reached. And for the first time ever, we went back to check in on women one year after reintegration: every single one was earning an income and rebuilding her life.

None of this is possible without our incredible supporters, partners, and the communities who trust us.

Earlier this week, these women sat together ahead of their scheduled surgeries during our ongoing fistula camp at St. Francis Hospital Buluba.

Today, we celebrate Mother’s Day alongside them and the many others now beginning their post-operative recovery.

While surgery is a critical step, recovery does not end at discharge. Many women return home to situations where rest and recovery are not possible, increasing the risk of complications and repeat treatment.

Through our reintegration program, we provide short-term, practical support to help women recover safely and rebuild their lives following surgery.

As this camp continues, we are working to identify up to 10 women most at risk following surgery.

Please help support their full path to recovery:

Women like Hadija began arriving on Monday for screening ahead of our surgical camp at St. Francis Buluba Hospital.

For many, reaching the health centre is a significant first step in their journey towards a fistula-free future.

Our goal is to ensure that every woman who attends leaves with a clearer path forward.

💚💜 Our Q1 2026 Newsletter is here 💚💜

In the first months of the year, Uganda Village Project continued working across Uganda to strengthen access to reproductive health services and support women affected by obstetric fistula.

We hosted two surgical camps and carried out additional training with our fistula ambassadors both in Iganga and Kiryandongo — strengthening community-based awareness, referral, and follow-up.

With the start of the new academic year in Uganda, we also resumed our adolescent reproductive health education in schools and communities, onboarding two new partner schools and continuing with 8 schools that joined the program in 2025.
