Sting, who turned 73 this year, has been backing the LGBTQ community since before it was cool. While the UK was trying to pass anti-gay legislation in the 80s, Sting wasn't having it.
He spoke out hard, saying minority communities "enrich us, not take away from us or threaten us" and that straight people needed to fight back because "it impinges on everybody's freedom."
He's also given credit where it's due - thanking the gay community for teaching men how to actually show affection without freaking out. "I'm perfectly willing to hug the people I work with," he said, calling out how his father's generation couldn't even do that.
When it came to playing gay roles? Zero hesitation. He kissed men on screen without worrying what people would think. About one particular scene, he casually admitted it "wasn't entirely unpleasant."
