What's your why?

A lot of women reach (peri)menopause and have a reckoning. They don't want to fight their bodies anymore. They don't care about looking *cute* for others, they want to feel strong, they want to feel healthy, they want to be at peace.

Here are some things I hear all the time.

“I don’t want to be afraid of going uphill. I want enough energy to get me to the top!”
“I want to feel strong carrying my groceries upstairs to the kitchen.”
“I want to live independently in my 80s.”
“I don’t want to diet. I want to eat real food.”
“I want to be a healthy, active grandma.”

Intuitive eating rejects external food rules and teaches you to trust your body's natural hunger and fullness cues. Click the link for more: https://alpinenutrition.org/contact/

Don't get me wrong, I love a good bone broth, but it should be PART of your food, not a meal in itself. The brain is activated by the act of chewing to release digestive enzymes and even hormones that signal satiety and improve digestion. Sip on bone broth when you're recovering from stomach upset, but enjoy a nice chewable meal whenever possible. Your brain and your tummy will be happier for it!

📣 Don't let the holiday weekend be the end of your summer freedom with food.
Enjoy what you want to eat at your BBQ celebration AND the rest of the week!
You don't have to "get back on track" with diet rules just because school started.
Instead, use the free time to sit your butt down, and savor breakfast or lunch or an afternoon snack before the evening of chaos starts (sports practices, music lessons, meetings, book club, "whats for dinner, etc.)
Remember, food doesn’t need to be earned or justified, and guilt is not an ingredient!
Keep eating easy. "Show up. Think about it (but not too hard). And give a s**t."

Potato salad isn't a moral failure! It's just a side dish.

It's also surprisingly healthy, thanks to a little thing called "resistant starch". When potatoes are cooked and then cooled, they undergo a process called starch retrogradation. The cooling causes the starch molecules to re-form into a dense structure that resists digestion in your small intestine. Instead of spiking your blood sugar, it passes to the colon, where it acts as a prebiotic, feeding healthy gut bacteria.

I am dressing my salad with a vinaigrette and some from the fine folks at , and with a nice grilled protein, this cookout will be healthy *and* tasty!

What's on your Labor Day menu?

The 60-Second Breakfast!

If you're already tired at 7 AM, you need a fuss-free breakfast to give you energy, stamina, and even a hormonal boost to start your day off right.

Add your oats to 3 small containers, then add whatever toppings you like. Here are some of the ones I use regularly:

H**p hearts
Unsweetened soy milk or your milk of choice
Cacao nibs or chocolate chips
Peanut butter powder or peanut butter
Cinnamon or another spice
Protein powder

Mix your oats and toppings with just enough milk to cover, then refrigerate. They’ll be ready in the morning. Don’t like cold oats? Pop them in the microwave for a minute, stir well, and your hot oats will be ready!

What’s your favorite fast breakfast?
