Grief isn’t measured by a calendar, and it isn’t something you “get over.” Some losses change the way you experience the world forever. They change the holidays, the birthdays, the ordinary Tuesdays, and the person you see in the mirror. Sometimes healing looks like laughter. Sometimes it looks like tears that show up without warning years later. Before you tell someone they’re grieving too long, too deeply, or the “wrong” way, remember that you have no idea what they carry when no one is watching. If someone you love is grieving, don’t try to fix them. Just sit with them.
