Over 50 years teaching authentic karate in the Springfield Illinois area, with teachers and students who have medaled on the regional, national, and international stage. Founded by Sensei Doug Dennis in 1973, Shudo Kan follows the martial arts tradition and teachings of Kenwa Mabuni, founder of Sh*to-Ryu, the style of karate taught in our dojo. With a focus on practical self-defense as well as the development of character, discipline, and confidence, Shudo Kan is situated to help you or your child grow as a person, with skills that will be as useful in self-defense as with other endeavors.

We know it's way too early to be thinking about this now, but we want to make sure it gets on everyone's calendar. The Shudo Kan Karate Club Holiday Party will be held on Dec 18 at Feast Buffet in Springfield. Awards will be given out and achievements will be recognized. We hope you'll be able to join us for this evening of dining and fun as we celebrate all that our students have accomplished.
We'll have more details as we get closer.

A word of thanks from Mr D for those who expressed their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation on the occasion of our 53rd anniversary.
Thank you all for trusting Shudo Kan to improve the lives of our students for the past 53 years by holding true to our principles of Character, Sincerity, Effort, Etiquette, and Self-Control. Special thanks to those that helped build the foundation for our success Including Dave Fasig and Sandy Dennis who were there from the beginning and thanks to those who have believed in our journey for so many years: Jeff Jenkins, Charles Jarnagin, and Charles Scott. Good luck to those who continue to set a positive example for others to follow like Bob Hinchcliffe, Erin Emory, Steve Huddle, Dr Raj, Matt Jackson, Tim Griffin, John Gaston; and a new wave of teachers that will continue long after we are gone! Vernon Vincent, Morgan, Kember, Oliver and others to follow. May we all continue to reach for higher goals in our lives and lift up our students in their needs.
Finally; thank you to three men that sacrificed the most in our time apart, our challenges together and your quest to be the best we can be: my sons Ryan, Brandon and Jason Dennis. I love you all! May we all be blessed🙏
