Prayerfully sharing this message from Pastor Marty Dennis from High Street Church of the Nazarene here in Springfield. Pray for us to have the wisdom to know how to best minister in these difficult days. God, raise up your Church that we may stand in unity with our Haitian brothers and sisters.


“With a heavy heart I need to inform you that Pastor Joubert Adrien, pastor of our Haitian congregation was apprehended this morning and is being processed for deportation. His wife was also apprehended, but then released to go home and take care of their children.

The question is this: How do we as a congregation navigate our way through this?

Here are a few thoughts I feel led to share with you.

1. If you look beyond politics, you will find real people with real souls that we must care for while they are with us.

2. Pastor Adrien and his family have not lived in Haiti for more that 20 years and have very few connections there. While living in the United States they have lived by the letter of the law.

3. I have reached out to our Mayor and our Governor, but their hands are ultimately tied in this case.

4. Our primary way of response should reflect our dependence upon God and His Word.

In 2 Chronicles 20, we read that Judah was about to be attacked by three other nations and they would be strongly outnumbered in the battle. King Jehoshaphat prayed one of the most submissive, eloquent prayers. In verse 12 He simply said "For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” He then led his people into a time of prayer and fasting. The outcome turned out to be more than amazing for Judah. So I humbly ask you to pray for our precious Haitian brothers and sisters. I don't know what to do, but my eyes are to be focused more on God than the crisis.
While I am very emotional about the events that are taking place against our Haitian community, I am reminded that Jesus’ ministry emphasized healing, teaching, and mercy rather than political revolution. Although I will continue to reach out to help in any way that I can to minister to our Haitian community, I must reflect the heart and mind of Christ. I strongly urge all of you to do the same.
I challenge you to move into a time of prayer and fasting as we draw strength and direction from our Heavenly Father.

May God continue to bless you all. I hope to see you all Sunday if not before.”
