Two hundred fifty years ago, this country signed its name to an idea. Today America turns 250 — the semiquincentennial — and it’s worth taking a beat to sit with that number.

The DMV isn’t a bystander to that history. It’s the backdrop of it. The same region where the country was argued into existence is the region where, every fall and winter, a new set of kids lace up under the lights and give a community something to show up for.
That’s the throughline we love around here — the games are small, and they’re also part of something a lot bigger. Today the fields are quiet and the grills are going. Before long, the whistles start again.
