Its’s mostly games!!

Learning to read needed to feel like little wins, with the time we had together. It needed to cater to the kids who felt the big feelings. And it needed to really help them understand sounds and words.

I’m feeling all the big feelings about it ending. But really excited to start our new school year and meet new our friends.

This August, we’ll be diving into our “My Body & Me” learning unit!

I am looking for a local doctor, nurse, surgeon, EMT, or other medical professional who would be willing to volunteer a little of their time to visit our classroom on a a Tuesday morning between 9-10am.

The goal is to give the children a hands-on look at what you do! You might demonstrate how a stethoscope works, let them safely look into ears or throats with your tools, test reflexes, show other kid-friendly medical equipment, or simply talk about how you help people stay healthy.

Peek into our morning.

We are wrapping up our foundations unit, and strengthening skills.

Here at NurtureDen, we thrive on routines, hands-on learning, emotional navigation, and studying unit-based themes that children fully immerse themselves in.

We learn through intentional units, like how to build a business from the ground up, from naming a product to understanding how to sell it, what it takes to run it, and working together as a team. We’ve explored friendship skills and how to communicate and navigate conversations with others. We’ve studied worms, what they eat, and how they impact our world.

Our goal is simple: help children feel confident, capable, and ready for the next step in their school journey. While also learning to see and explore the world through a deeper, more thoughtful lens.

This fall, we have 4 openings in our morning Pre-K program.

A few weeks ago, a learner asked if worms had eyes.

That simple question led us down a rabbit trail of observations, discussions, research, and discoveries.

We built a worm farm, watched the worms tunnel through the soil, tested different foods, and filled pages with sketches and notes.

Today, we finished our nonfiction books. Each page is filled with facts they discovered.

One of my favorite things about working with children is seeing how a tiny question can grow into weeks of learning. All because of a worm.

Behind the learning, some days are big emotional, can’t focus, meltdown days.

So instead of stopping learning we shift the energy. Today we played “Guess in 10”.

It looks like a simple game, but this game teaches children to practice listening, thinking, problem solving, and social skills all at once.

We played for a solid hour because, the kids kept asking to play again.
