It has been heartwarming to see our community come together and step up after what happened at APL. Thank you to everyone who has donated, volunteered, shared information, and offered support. A special thank you to the rescue organizations and local businesses that have helped collect donations and assist the animals in need. Your kindness, compassion, and generosity truly make a difference. Together, we are showing the strength and heart of our community. ❤️

Yesterday was a crazy day here at the shelter, and that momentum is continuing today and into the weekend.

Now that we've had a chance to reflect on everything that happened yesterday, we are simply amazed by the outpouring of love and support from our rescue partners and our community.

First, we want to thank our shelter staff. They showed up early, stayed late, and worked tirelessly to ensure every animal received the care they needed.

Our front desk team has worked nonstop processing foster applications. If you have not heard back from us yet, please be patient—we are working as quickly as possible and appreciate your understanding.

To the rescue organizations that stepped up and took animals into their care:

• Humane Society of Central Illinois pulled 8 dogs and 17 cats and kittens.

Pet Central Helps took 3 small dogs and 17 adult cats.

Clovers Cat Club took in 28 tiny kittens, including several requiring medical care.

By pulling these animals into your rescues, you helped save lives and created much-needed space for the strays that will continue to come into our care from the community.

We would also like to thank the rescues that reached out and offered support in any way they could:

• Deeby's Senior Chihuahua Rescue

•Paws Jackson

•Wild Canine Rescue

•Illinois Humane

And last, but certainly not least, thank you to all of our incredible volunteers:

• Those who showed up to walk, bathe, care for, and love our dogs.

The Meow Mobile volunteers who cared for the cats and kittens.

The volunteer who stepped in to help tackle the endless laundry.

Everyone who donated to the food bank, helping us continue to support families who rely on both our food bank and the APL food bank.

Those who offered transportation assistance wherever it was needed.

And to all who are apart of Friends Rescue-

Some were walking dogs. Some were out purchasing detergent and food.
Many took time out of their busy day to attend the hearing at the courthouse. Through it all, we continued our mission of ensuring the dogs in the care of Sangamon County Animal Control received the attention and care they deserve.

To every person, rescue, volunteer, donor, and supporter who stepped up when we needed you most—thank you.
