To borrow from the example Dr Sittser offers, study and knowledge about God alone is like studying the map and never going on the trip.

As God’s beloved children, we want to study the map AND go to the place we learned about.

Spiritual Direction is the environment where we foster the experience while holding onto what the map shared with us.
