You can’t even imagine how friggin cool this Hamer 12 string bass is. On the bench for some maintenance and a little extra love. I wish I had 1% of the Dug Pinnick skill in my hands to make this sing like it deserves. But it’ll be back home singing soon enough in most capable hands.

This very much parallels my experience with high value / exotic cars. IMO, the real value of an object is in its ability to deliver an emotional experience. When you focus only on the monetary asset or collectability, like a Pokémon card, the "fun" has been lost - and look how that game has been all but destroyed by collectors.
Play the '56 Les Paul, drive the Ferrari, drink the 25 year old scotch and enjoy it.
