This song has been stuck in my head since I heard sing it at The Altar Call. If you haven’t been... you need to go.
But it got me thinking.
I keep telling myself the same things. I wanna get back into the music scene. I wanna perform. I wanna create. But somewhere along the way my divorce pushed people away from me... and I let it push me away from myself too. From my art. From the spaces I used to thrive in.
And I’ve cried about it. A lot.
Enough to fill a river honestly.
But there comes a point where you’ve cried enough over spilled milk. You don’t keep crying... you just get new milk. New features. New music. New shows. New everything.
So that’s where I am this morning.
I’m done crying over this river. It’s time to wade in it. Baptize myself in it. Look back at everything I’ve been through and decide... this river will not drown me.
I’m gonna build myself a boat and get across it.
The river I cried became the very thing I needed to cross over into my next chapter.
🤍 | .altarcall y’all should really go.

didn’t take home the title but i took home something better… clarity.
Cincinnati showed me a version of myself i hadn’t met yet. dressed in purple, daughter on my hip, surrounded by women who survived things i can’t even speak on out loud and somehow i still felt like i belonged in that room.
being a survivor doesn’t mean i’m a victim. survivor is not a destination it’s a process. my story belongs to all of us.
to every survivor reading this… this is not your whole story. it’s just a chapter.
i didn’t win the award. but i left with receipts…
and so the adventure begins 🦋

This morning I almost drove past her.
I see her every morning walking to the bus stop with her baby. But something tugged at me today. I drove past her... and then I turned around.
I’m glad I did.
She’s a single mom. Lives with her dad. Saving every dollar to get her first apartment and her first car. And despite everything she’s carrying... she had the biggest smile on her face. Happy to have somewhere to stay. Happy to have a way to get to work. Happy to have a job.
And she reminded me of me. Last year. Post separation. Laid off. No car. Just me, my baby, and the bus route I had memorized by heart. Drop baby off at daycare.Pick her up after. Take the bus back home.
That was my life for a while.
Until I got my job. And then a week later I bought my first car. And things just started going up.
I forget that sometimes. I forget where I started.
I’m twenty three years old. I started working at sixteen. And now I’m in the medical field, building toward becoming a nurse, a practitioner, a wife, a mother to more than one child. On the outside it may not look like where I want to be... but I’ve come a long way.
And she reminded me of that without even knowing it.
She also made me think... how many of you would have stopped? We pass people every single day. We see their struggle and keep moving. How many people stopped and checked in on me when I said I was struggling? When I was open about my pain on here?
Be a little kinder. You never know what someone is carrying.
And don’t forget where you started.
Let it go sis ft
yo, it’s your girl metaphorical 🖤

✍🏾🔥
an amazing mother of two beautiful babies,
you may know her from “A Single Mother’s Freestyle”

a poet who doesn’t just write… she bleeds truth onto the page.
her words carry weight, softness, and that kind of honesty you can’t fake.
this is for the women healing
the mothers finding themselves again
the ones doing it all… even when nobody sees them.
she’s stepping onto the Postpartum Poet stage not just to perform
but to shift the room.
