🌧️ RAINY SEASON: WHAT STUDENTS, TEACHERS & PARENTS GO THROUGH TO GET TO SCHOOL

Every morning during the rainy season, thousands of Nigerian students, teachers and parents leave their homes with one big challenge: how do we get to school safely?

For some children, going to school means walking through flooded roads, muddy paths and deep potholes, sometimes with their uniforms lifted above their knees just to prevent them from getting soaked.

Some have to cross dangerous, waterlogged areas, walk beside moving vehicles, or squeeze through narrow and slippery paths. Others arrive at school wet, dirty, cold and exhausted—before the first lesson even begins.

And it doesn't end there.

On their way back home, they face the same hazards. Heavy rainfall can bring flash floods, poor visibility, slippery roads, fallen trees, exposed drainage channels, electric hazards and accidents involving vehicles and motorcycles.

Parents are also worried. Imagine sending a child to school in the morning while the sky is already dark and the rain is pouring, wondering whether that child will return home safely.

Teachers are not exempted either. They also have families to return to, yet many are expected to travel through the same dangerous conditions simply because schools must remain open.

📌 The question we need to ask is: at what point does education become a safety risk?

Education is important, but the safety and lives of our children, teachers and parents must also matter.

Government at all levels should seriously consider developing a clear policy for extreme rainy seasons and severe weather conditions, including temporary school closures or mandatory weather-related holidays when roads and communities become genuinely unsafe.

This should not be about stopping education. It should be about protecting lives while finding safer ways to keep learning going, including alternative learning arrangements where possible.

A child should not have to risk drowning, electrocution, an accident or serious injury simply because they are trying to attend school.

EDUCATION MATTERS.
BUT SAFETY MUST COME FIRST. 🌧️🏫

📱 YOU BUY A NEW PHONE—THEN HAVE TO BUY THE CHARGER?

Some new phones include a charging cable but no wall adapter. Companies say many buyers already own one. But if you need to buy an adapter separately, does the phone feel like a complete purchase?

What would you choose?

A) Include the charger in every box
😎 Leave it out and offer a lower phone price
C) Let buyers choose a free charger at checkout

Tell us what came with your last phone, and whether you had to spend extra. I want to hear the reasons on both sides. 👇🏾
