In a recent Educate AI interview, Penda Learning CTO Scott Wenger shares how the company approached AI with a focus on solving a real instructional challenge, not simply adding AI for its own sake. He explains how Cosmos, Penda’s AI Instructional Assistant, was designed to provide students with immediate, reliable support directly within the flow of learning. By building AI into science activities students are already completing, Penda aims to reduce friction while helping learners get the guidance they need in the moment.https://edu-ai.org/educate-ai-magazine-volume-2-issue-4/ Penda thought about student and teacher needs to provide a support tool like no other. 🔬 Science Challenge of the Week: Can you name one scientific phenomenon you observed today?

Maybe it was condensation forming on a cold drink. 💧
A shadow changing as the sun moved across the sky. ☀️
Or ice melting faster in one spot than another.

Science is everywhere we look and helping students make those connections can turn an everyday observation into curiosity, questioning, and deeper understanding.

At Penda Learning, that’s why we incorporate phenomena-based activities and assessments into our science intervention platform. Students don’t just learn science concepts, they connect them to the world they experience every day.

Because science helps all of us better understand the world around us.

🚀 Learn how Penda's award-winning science intervention platform helps students explore, understand, and excel in science.

We’re excited to be in Florida this week for FASFEPA 2026 and to connect with state and federal program leaders from across the state.

Penda Learning is proud to work with districts throughout Florida, helping schools strengthen science intervention, close unfinished learning gaps, and give students more opportunities to build standards mastery.

And we’re seeing the impact. Across our Florida district partners, students using Penda are demonstrating stronger science outcomes with higher levels of Penda mastery consistently connected to stronger performance on Florida science assessments.

If you’re attending FASFEPA, come meet the Penda team and learn how districts are using Penda to provide targeted science intervention while giving teachers and administrators greater visibility into student progress.

Teachers don’t need more resources to manage. They need better support built into the work they’re already doing.

That’s what Penda is designed to provide.

Teachers save time with auto-grading and immediate feedback, while Penda’s Instructional Guides help them go deeper, unpacking the standards, identifying common misconceptions, providing questions to ask students, offering ideas for bringing phenomena to life, and explaining why answers are correct.

Add easy-to-use reporting and built-in AI support for students, and teachers have more of what they need to confidently teach science without having to build everything from scratch.

As Cole Hawkins from Lovejoy ISD, TX shared:

“The feedback from our teachers has been incredibly positive. Teachers appreciate the quick feedback, the reports, the walk-through features, and how easy it is to implement.”

Less time building, grading, and searching. More time helping students understand science.

5 questions to help every district leader make better decisions 09/16/2026

District leaders are under more pressure than ever to make every instructional investment count. In a featured eSchool News article, Steven Miller, Ph.D., outlines five questions that can help leaders separate promising solutions from solutions that will truly bring measurable impact to learning.

He highlights research from Penda Learning to teach us about translating investment decisions into measurable student outcomes.

Research has consistently shown that many elementary teachers feel less confident teaching science than subjects like reading and math.

That matters.

When science is minimized in the early grades, students don’t just miss experiments and engaging lessons. They miss the chance to build the vocabulary, background knowledge, reasoning skills, and foundational understanding they will need for more complex science later.

By middle and high school, students are expected to analyze data, explain phenomena, build models, understand scientific texts, and connect increasingly complex ideas.

Those skills don’t begin in middle school. They are built year after year.

For district and school leaders, strengthening elementary science is not simply about adding another subject to an already full schedule. It is about creating a stronger academic foundation and giving teachers the support, resources, and confidence to make science a consistent part of learning.

Penda Learning helps schools make that easier with 3-dimensional, phenomena-based, science activities, differentiated support, automated grading, instructional resources, and data that helps educators see where students understand the science and where they need additional help.

Strong science outcomes start long before the tested grades.
