While reporting on a fatal multi-vehicle crash between an SUV and a Metro bus, New Chopper 4 with NBC crashed, tragically claiming the lives of NBC reporter Eliana Moreno and veteran pilot George Marciniw in Chatsworth, CA, on September 15, 2026. A bystander who was near the crash as it happened also lost their life.

First responders worked tirelessly on scene as NBC reporter Darsha Philips went live to report, visibly shaken by the loss of her colleagues.

A witness, Allyona Sevanesian, spoke with Philips and other reporters about her experience seeing a fireball erupt as the helicopter went down.

Later in the evening Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass alongside LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath and LAFD Battalion Chief Rico Gross spoke to the press stating the National Transportation Safety Bureau (NTSB) as well as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating and working to figure out what caused the helicopter to go down.

Flock cameras used for 24/7 surveillance by police and other law enforcement agencies have appeared in droves across Southern California following a trend spreading across the country.

Mainly found on city streets, some cameras are now seen in business parking lots and residential neighborhoods.

Flock cameras store copious amounts of data, reading license plates, photographing vehicles, identifying the make, model, color and body type. They can detect unique details like stickers, bike racks, tool boxes and damage. Reconstruct movements, share information across jurisdictions and allow law enforcement to search for specific data through neutral-language descriptors.

While Flock claims its cameras don’t use facial recognition, the video cameras will record faces, after which AI can be used to search for a person or vehicle in their database.

The increased surveillance is widely unpopular, transcending partisan lines as citizens have expressed their anger towards their local governments for allowing the cameras to be installed and in some cases taken it upon themselves to remove them.

A popular app called DeFlock allows people to see where the cameras are found in their communities while also displaying the direction the camera is looking.

Flock Safety was founded in 2017 and remains a private for-profit technology company currently valued at $8.3 billion, up nearly a billion since March of last year.

Today pardoned January 6th insurrectionist and known white supremest Jake Lang returned to Minneapolis for his “Crusader Freedom of Speech Rally” to stop the persecution of Shiloh Hendrix who was found guilty of using racial slurs against a black and autistic child on a playground in Rochester in April.

I have been holding on to these images from my visit to Minneapolis in January during Operation Metro Surge, when Lang appeared for his “March against Minnesota Fraud” rally that promoted anti-Islam, anti-immigrant and pro-ICE rhetoric on January 17, 2026.

Lang along with a handful of his supporters were massively out numbered by counter-protestors and he was eventually chased away from city hall into an Uber.

Not even a month later, Lang posted a video to his Instagram on February 7, 2026 of him kicking down a permitted ice sculpture that read “Prosecute ICE” to read “Pro ICE” he was given a felony charge of criminal damage to property with an added hate crime charge.

Happy World Photography Day!

A collection of single images and in-between moments the roadtrip to Minneapolis that I haven’t gotten around to sharing from 2025 & 2026.

Images made in Los Angeles, Simi Valley, Venice Beach, San Francisco and Humboldt, CA, as well as Utah, Nebraska and Minnesota.

Today I’m grateful for all the people I’ve met, the places I’ve gone (both good and bad) and the memories made along the way.

Cheers to photography 🥂
