Marine Cpl. Kirk J. Bosselmann, 21, of Napa, Calif.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Nov. 27, 2004 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq while Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Kirk grew up in Dickerson in Montgomery County before moving to Napa, Calif., after graduating from Poolesville High School in 2001.

Kirk's level of skill and daring outdoors even impressed Masai warriors. During a family safari to Kenya four years ago, Kirk's hunting, riding and outdoors prowess prompted his Masai guides to present him with a ceremonial tribal sword.

Whether he was climbing trees, heading out before dawn to go duck hunting or going full speed on the lawn mower, Kirk displayed a zeal for living life to the fullest.

"That kid couldn't do anything slow," said his father, Rainer Bosselmann.

Kirk loved the outdoors, whether he was hunting deer with a bow or foxes on horseback. At 18, he moved to California to fight wildfires but ended up joining the Marines instead. Bosselmann even called home to say he had tried bull riding.

May we never forget the Service and the Sacrifice of Marine Cpl. Kirk J. Bosselmann.

Air Force Capt. John J. Boria, 29, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; assigned to the 911th Air Refueling Squadron, Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D.; died Sept. 6, 2004 from injuries he received in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Doha, Qatar while Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom.

After graduating from Union High School, John entered the Air Force Academy, graduating in 1998. While at the academy, he and other classmates had a special inscription put inside their graduation rings.

“A friend that sticks closer than a brother,” it reads.

John also has a brother, Joe Boria, who is studying to become a minister at a Florida seminary, friends said.

John’s father works for American Airlines, and his mother is a nurse.

John was a loving son who “never gave his parents any problems”.

“He was a very nice young man — very intelligent. He was always there to help”.

John X. and Wanda Boria, and their other son, Joey, were in Doha at the captain’s bedside when he died after having been kept alive on life support.

At the end of his life came the possibility that others’ lives might be extended: John was an organ donor.

His kidneys were made available for other patients at the Hamad General Hospital in Doha.

Arrangements were made to fly his heart to Saudia Arabia, and plans were discussed on how to help others through his liver and other organs.

“We pray that his organs are functioning and giving life to others. Our son’s wish was to give life to other people,” “We are going to celebrate his life, not his death,” said Wanda Boria.

A memorial service has been scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in Broken Arrow for the 1993 graduate of Tulsa Union High School.

“We are going to celebrate his life, not his death,” Wanda Boria said.

May we never forget the Service and the Sacrifice of Air Force Capt. John J. Boria.

Army 1st Sgt. Michael J. Bordelon, 37, of Morgan City, La.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.; died May 10, 2005 at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, from injuries sustained April 23 when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his Stryker military vehicle in Mosul, Iraq while Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Michael graduated from high school in 1986 and attended college at McNeese State University.

In high school, friends called 1SGT Bordelon "Rocky" because he looked like Sylvester Stallone. He had the brute strength to match.

Michael gave fifteen years of his life to his military career. He was on his second tour of duty in Iraq at the time of the convoy bombing. One of his duties was to write letters to the relatives of soldiers within his unit that were killed in action. Due to his heroic service in Iraq, Michael was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Michael was a loving father to his three children. He is remembered as a good-hearted and comforting person by his wife. She also said, “He was a great husband, father, and leader. He was hard working, very sensitive, but tough and always giving.”

Michael was a man who looked on the bright side of things, and who always was looking for a way to help others. His daughter recalls learning many things from her dad, this in particular, “the one thing that truly stuck with me that I learned from my dad was to work hard and never give up.”

May we never forget the Service and the Sacrifice of Army 1st Sgt. Michael J. Bordelon.

Army Staff Sgt. Stevon A. Booker, 34, of Apollo, Pa.; assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, Fort Stewart, Ga.; killed in action during a raid into Baghdad, Iraq on April 5, 2003, while Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Stevon of Apollo, Pa., joined the Army after graduating from Apollo-Ridge High School in 1988. He was born in Detroit, then moved with his family to the mining town of Redtown, Pa., and then to Apollo.

His mother, Freddie Jackson of Apollo, said her son, who was 5-10 and 180 pounds, kept himself fit and looked dashing in his uniform.

“If it wasn’t for the war, he’d have been home by now,” she said. “But it’s what he wanted to do. He always told me, ‘Mom, don’t worry about me. We are the best-equipped military in the world, and I’m going to be fine.’”

Stevon was a veteran of the 1991 Gulf War and thought he had learned some valuable lessons.

In December2002, Stevon said in an interview with the Associated Press near the Kuwait-Iraq border: “I teach my guys what I learned from the first Gulf War. One guy doesn’t win a war. You have to have confidence in your equipment. The M1A1 is the best tank on the battlefield. It can destroy anything the Iraqis throw at us.”

Army Capt. Orlando A. Bonilla, 27, of Killeen, Texas; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; killed Jan. 28, 2005 in the crash of an OH-58 Kiowa helicopter in Baghdad while Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Also killed was Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Charles S. Jones.

Orlando was born in 1977 at Fort McClennan, Alabama. He was a graduate from Ellison High School in Killeen, Texas and received a commission in Aviation in December of 1999.

Orlando stayed home with his wife for a while in 2004 when her father, Army Sgt. 1st Class Henry A. Bacon, died in Iraq. It was that gentlemanly personality that attracted Tabitha Bacon to her husband when they met while working at a Target store.

They married at Fort Hood and would have celebrated their third wedding anniversary on March 16. But Orlando died on Jan. 28 in a helicopter accident. He was based at Fort Hood.

Tabitha said her husband, who attended the University of Texas in Austin, told her he decided in high school that he wanted to be an Army pilot. "He liked flying," she said, calling him "just a wonderful, kindhearted, caring, gentle person."

The last time they spoke, he said he was close to coming home from Iraq "He told me he was going to fly a couple more missions before he came home," she said. "I was going to welcome him home, since I didn't get to welcome my dad home."

May we never forget the Service and the Sacrifice of Army Capt. Orlando A. Bonilla.
