No one can truly prepare you. Or needs to.
Life feels heavier lately than it normally does. This year I had no one to take a picture of for their first day of school. While that’s exciting, it’s also sad knowing that for the past 20ish years, that’s what I did.That’s who I was. That was my everyday life. Making sure the kids were where they were supposed to be. Doing what they were supposed to do. My focus has slowly changed and shifted to other things. Now I’m helping them navigate problems at work, relationship struggles, and how to pay for college.
But I realize those are all really good obstacles and things to have.
Recently in my personal life and at work, I’ve learned of peoples passings that were unexpected and way too early. I’m watching people close to me deal with serious illnesses in their immediate families. And I can’t help but continuously think about it.
While I have a lot of things on my to-do list - work wise- I also have a lot of things on my mind. Since I’m many years from retirement, every minute of time off, I have from work is extremely precious and protected.
So if I could give anyone advice or prepare them for this stage of life, it would be to protect your time. If that’s you coming across as stern or uncaring or a bitch to others then so be it. I’m glad me and my husband are both on that same page of protecting our time. 🕰️
