Sip three writing exercises at Calico Cidery in Julian, California, during this episode of Write On Wednesday (WOW).

The WOW series is a nod to Woden, also known as Odin, who is the chief god in Germanic and Norse mythology. He is known to have two ravens, Huginn ("thought") and Muninn ("memory"), who fly all over the world to bring him stories from different places.

Theme Song: Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana

Writing Sprint: For two minutes, write a list of everything you wanted when you were thirteen years old.

Psalm 132
O Thea, remember my foremothers,
and all the hardships they endured;

How they swore an oath to you
and vowed a solemn vow:

“I will not come under the roof of my house,
nor climb up into my bed;

I will not allow my eyes to sleep,
nor let my eyelids slumber;

Until I have honored Thea,
the Mystery who dwells within me.”

For you brought creation into being;
you desire to dwell within and through your creatures:

“Creation shall be my Sacred Body forever;
through creation I will move and bless,
and I will delight in all my creatures.

I will clothe my priestesses with love,
and all my creatures will rejoice and sing.”

The Thean Psalter is a feminist, feminine prayer book based on the Book of Psalms. The psalms are organized into morning and evening prayer over thirty days so that the entire book can be prayed individually or communally over the course of a month. The Thean Psalter cultivates an intersectional thealogical approach and serves as a resource for those who seek to pray using feminine images of the Divine in a feminine voice. Theanism, from which "Thean" is derived, finds its roots in the Greek word, "Thea," which means "Goddess."

Theme Song: Litany of Divine Absence by Nicholas Lens and Nick Cave

Writing Sprint: For five minutes and twenty-nine seconds, write an answer to the following question: Who are you?

08/08/2026

I'm happy to announce that I'm the Tempe Public Library's Fall 2026 Writer-in-Residence. I'm excited to join you on your writing journey!

And now, a writing sprint: for one minute, write down what makes your writing voice irreplaceable. (If your inner critic interrupts, smile kindly and tell them you'll listen in a minute, but for now, they need to do the listening.)

I'd love to read in the comments what the sprint is like for you.
