Thank you to all 56 volunteers who made it out for our second tree planting at Mitchell Park!

We planted 18 trees, of 9 different species, including a Guaiacum, Canyon Hackberry, Ironwood (Olneya tesota), and Cascalote – all natives but not very commonly planted. These four are located on the west side of the park. On the north side, there are two carob trees, and on the northeast, there are 3 desert willows and 2 mulberries! On the south side of the park, there are 4 elms, 2 ash, and a fruitless olive. This greatly increases the biodiversity of trees at this beloved neighborhood park.

We also want to thank former mayor Harry Mitchell for stopping by. His grandfather owned the land that was donated to become Mitchell Park. Having you there was an honor, sir.

If you’d like to see us one more time, we’ll be having our graduation celebration on April 17th at 530pm at the Tempe Center for the Arts. And if you aren’t tired of planting trees yet, please come to the Tempe Cares tree-planting at Kiwanis on April 25! Links in comments.

Thank you so much to all the volunteers who came out to our Tempe Leadership Jaycee Park planting day! Because of you, this neighborhood park has 15 new trees that replaced the ones lost during the October 2025 microburst. And the City of Tempe urban forester even added some new species to increase the biodiversity.
