That ends today.
This joyous little desert icon — gifted to the Big Gay 5K universe by the wildly talented — needs a name. And preferably some lore.
So, our fellow peccary pen pals: DEFEND THIS CREATURE. GIVE THEM AN IDENTITY.
Drop your best name in the comments, or send a DM if you don’t want to make your creative process public. Add a tiny backstory explaining who they are and why they’re so damn happy for bonus points.

Don’t want to run or walk 3.1 miles? Come be a Big Gay Helper! From Friday’s Kickoff Kiki to Saturday’s finish line, we’ve got volunteer roles for all abilities and energy levels.
Our runners may get the medals, but our helpers are the ones who make the magic happen. And we can’t pull off this Big Gay neighborhood without you.

THE BIG GAY COURSE IS OFFICIALLY OUT OF THE CLOSET!
We have a course. We have city approval. We have FRESH PAVEMENT. In Tucson. We KNOW.
Our original vision was to bring our colorful collection of humans through the equally colorful streets of Barrio Viejo and Armory Park. But with Barrio Viejo preparing for some major (and much-needed!) road improvements, we’re giving beautiful, historic Armory Park the FULL Big Gay treatment instead.
And this course has some serious perks:
🌈 SO. MANY. HIGH FIVES. Our out-and-back stretches mean you’ll see your friends, teammates, crushes, and possibly your future ex coming the other direction.
🎶 DOUBLE THE FUN. More opportunities for music, entertainment, cheering, and course support.
👟 FRESH PAVEMENT. The ENTIRE course. If you know Tucson roads, you know this is basically a unicorn sighting.
Whether you’re chasing a personal record or turning your 3.1 miles into a moving Pride parade, this neighborhood is about to get VERY colorful.

For their 3rd birthday, they went ALL OUT with a giant raffle — and we tossed in a Big Gay 5K entry.
And who won it? THE BG Boyd. Tucson drone wizard extraordinaire.
Rumor has it his wife is the one excited to run… but we’ve now got tentative confirmation that BG may be bringing his flying camera along for the ride.
So if you see a drone overhead on race morning: wave to it. Perform for it. Give it your best Big Gay moment.

We just hit 12 states represented in Big Gay 5K registration.
Now, yes, three of those states are technically represented by my cousins, who will be running 3.1 miles and then running amok, amok, amok around Tucson for the rest of the weekend.
But still: TWELVE STATES.
Which means some of you are coming to town. Some of you are hosting friends and family. And some of you are going to need a very comfortable place to land after all this Big Gay nonsense.
We’re so happy to welcome voco The Tuxon as our official HOST HOTEL for Big Gay Weekend.
The team at The Tuxon has been incredibly welcoming, and we’re working together to make sure our Big Gay guests feel comfortable, cared for, and very much at home for the weekend.
Our hotel deal is set up for Friday and Saturday nights — check in Friday, check out Sunday — and The Tuxon is just about one mile from the downtown action, including the Kickoff Kiki and the 5K start/finish.
Close enough to stay in the middle of everything. Far enough away to recover with dignity.
And yes, that weekend includes a Big Gay Pool Party on Saturday afternoon.
DJ. Bar. Pool. Tucson sunshine. Questionable decisions involving inflatable objects.
If you’re into being close to the splashing chaos, ask about a poolside room.
