Bordeaux, right in the middle of harvest. September and October put the vineyards in full vendange, with hand-picked grapes and chateaux you can visit mid-harvest

Banff, during larch season. It's a short window, usually late September into early October, when entire alpine forests turn solid gold. Larch Valley above Moraine Lake is the classic hike, worth planning a trip specifically around.

Lastly, Ensenada, Mexico. A short trip most people overlook. A hike at Cañón de Doña Petra, a 100-foot geyser at La Bufadora, and a day that feels far more adventurous than "quick getaway" usually promises.
