What’s the BEST way to spend MORE time and money on your backyard? Do it one piece at a time.
Tackling one project at a time can mean redoing work, changing plans and stretching a backyard project out for months or even years.
Now, some homes are meant to be minimal. Maybe all they need is a clean deck, a few potted plants and a great place to sit. That’s perfect.
But most families actually need their backyard to do a lot more.
The kids need space to run amok. Mom and dad need somewhere quiet to sit and reconnect after a long day. Pool towels and floaties need somewhere to go besides becoming permanent backyard decor. And maybe we can avoid staring at the dead grass patch from that time someone put soap on the Slip ’N Slide.
At Canopy, we don’t start with, “What should we build?”
We start with, “How does your family actually live?”
Then we work backwards from there.

Some projects are about completely reimagining a space. This one was about preserving what made it special.
At this home in Jarrell Texas, the original front porch had the character and historic Southern style the homeowners loved, but years of exposure had taken their toll. Rot, water damage and deteriorating materials had made parts of the deck feel unsafe and difficult to use.
Our goal was simple: preserve the character of the original porch while rebuilding it to last.
We reused the original ornate wood balusters wherever possible, replaced vulnerable top and bottom rails with PVC, heat-bent new material to follow the original curves and worked with our welders to create custom knife plates that made the railing significantly stronger without changing its appearance.
The result feels like it belongs on this house because, in many ways, it always has.
Same character. Same storybook front porch. Better materials, stronger construction and a space this family can keep making memories on for years to come.
This is what we mean when we say outdoor living should feel like it was always meant to be there.

We recently wrapped up a historic-style front porch and deck remodel in Jarrell, Texas.
The goal was simple: replace the structural elements that had begun to rot without losing the character that made the home special in the first place.
We rebuilt the failing components with materials selected to better withstand the Texas heat, weather and everyday wear, while preserving the proportions, details and historic aesthetic of the original porch.
Because sometimes a remodel should not look like a remodel. It should look like it was always meant to be there.
