Vet Day!! Paulie visited with Doc on Monday because while he had been doing much better, we still needed to find answers. He had a bout of official sickness in his belly, and he'd stop eating, but we'd gotten him past that. He had actually improved and started eating again, but did regurg the night before his visit. So, we did radiographs to see if megaesophagus was the culprit, perhaps an obstruction, or anything else, and all looked good. The only hint of an issue was some food still sitting in his tummy. Due to the time frame from his last meal, we decided to start him on some Reglan to see if we can help things pass along during digestion. He remains on his mushroom complex (Digest) which has made a significant difference, but if indeed his food isn't passing through the system at the proper rate, we need to scoot that along. So, we'll see how this goes with the new med. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers, please, b/c it's never fun to lose your food.

I have to say, I am so proud of this sweet boy. He behaved for his exam, and even during x-rays despite being so very, very afraid (you can see it in the video). He did excrete his a**l glands and smell the place up 👃, but that's okay. I'm still giving him a gold sticker! It's a lot when you're terrified, but despite, he was a good boy. 🩷 Ya'll tell him what a good boy he is!

Big shout out and thank you to Nylabone Products for a wonderful donation of yummy chew toys! Our guys really, really, REALLY like bones they can play with, gnaw on, carry around and sleep with (🤷‍♀️), so this is an absolutely joy for them. Thank you so, so much! Let the Nylabone party begin! 🎉

It's been a bit since our last post. The reason's cluttered w/car issues, broken appliances, major dental procedures, illness & 100 other things. Sometimes it's just hard to keep up. Now is one of those times.

But that's not the point of this post, short of saying sorry for not being around. 😔 What's heavy on the heart is the current status.

It's hard to fight depression when you're bombarded daily w/animals in harsh situations, ranging from abandonment to walking into the needle on the same day as the call. There's absolutely no way to keep up w/all the requests. Also depressing.

Right now we stay pretty sad. We can't help anyone. We've no money coming in short of some monthly donations (🙏). We've vaccines to get, medical issues like Paulie's vet visit on Monday, a scheduled neuter, meds to buy, prescription foods...I dwell on how to do it.

We've always functioned this rescue on less than $50,000 a year. Last year was a little over $22,000. It all goes to the animals b/c we're a volunteer based rescue only. That's the biggest reason we can't take on more animals. The other is that I loathe to constantly bombard you for donations. Loathe. It's not our strong suit.

BUT, you must know - you're responsible for the success we've had b/c of all you've passed along to these dogs, & for that I'm eternally grateful. Please know that, as well as how much you mean to me/us. We know times are difficult & have been for some time; that makes your kindness even more meaningful.

So what's the point of this post? Yeah, we're in a danger zone w/very little funding, so if you're so inclined...it's an impassioned thank you. Our dogs also have no inquiries, so if you're looking, consider peeking at ours.

But animal welfare is declining in positive results all the way across the board & it doesn't feel like we're making any difference. High numbers of animals are dying, & if they're lucky it's by sedation & euthanasia. Animal welfare is dismal. We try to stay positive for the animals & our own sanity, but it's hard w/what we're witnessing & experiencing. We're scared.

I really just need everyone to think about that & what we can all do to change it. 💔

VET DAY!! Maxwell had some painful eyes that were super red and causing him to squint, so we quickly got him to the doc. With his history of anterior segment dysgenesis, it was doubly important to get him examined. Fortunately a thorough exam and stain showed normal eye pressure and no ulcers/scratched, so we started him on some meds for the irritation. Hopefully that will clear things up in a jiffy. While there, he slimed everyone appropriately.

Wishing everyone a lovely day of celebration. Please remember to bring pets inside, and remind others to do so, as well. The 4th is the worst time of year for animals, causing the highest number of animals to run away, get lost, and enter shelters due to the loud, frightening noises and chaos. Many, many, many of them do not make it home. It's important that they are remembered and cared for today, as well.

VET DAY! This week Sterling and Paulie visited Doc. Paulie received his annual vaccines, heartworm test, f***l, and exam. Sterling got his T4 rechecked to see where his thyroid levels were, as well as a general exam and discussion about his IBD. His thyroid levels were a low normal, so we're going up just 1 mg to see if it levels him out a bit.

We're still trying to figure out the best food for his IBD. The last 2 we've tried appear to be the culprit of him not feeling so good lately, so we're trying another. He did well with it the past 3 days, so here's hoping. 🙏 He felt perfectly fine at the vet hospital, however, making a point to try and barrel to the back so he could find out what was happening in the joint. He's so nosey!

He IS seeing hair growth, as you'll notice in his lazy photo, so perhaps the b12 is making a difference!

Paulie...I'm so very proud of him. He was shaking with fear when we arrived, but he was so brave and did very well, short of wanting to pancake, causing me to struggle to hold his now 81lb f***y up for his exam (81lbs of dead weight is much heaving than a regular 81lbs!). BUT, Doc said his heart rate was normal, so he wasn't overly stressed! 👏🏻 He acted like a gentleman, despite being so afraid, and I'm incredibly proud of him.

Paulie doesn't present well when approached on his territory, but he truly has such a gentle, little boy heart. Yet he still struggles with anxiety getting the best of him in certain situations. So, we're going to adjust his anxiety meds a bit and hope that it will allow him to better focus his attention on learning, relaxing, and enjoying himself...outside of lying on the bed, under the fan. Not a worry in the world for Paulie when he's stretched out there. 🛏🐶

Referring back to Sterling's lazy photo, he was exhauuuusted after his doc appt so he promptly scooted up to the front seat and fell asleep. I've learned to just set it up ahead of time for him b/c NObody puts Sterling in the corner (backseat). It's his stage, and we're just his audience. 🩷

Matilda is a summertime gal. While she used to refuse to come in even when the weather was 400 degrees, as she’s aged she’s leveled out to going back inside once it hits 200 degrees. She’s always been that girl who wanted to tan in the sun, listen to good music, and roll her eyes at the boys who flirt with her. She’s 11 1/2 yrs now and doesn’t sport the bikini as much, but she still loves a good back dance and roll in the grass. Summer is the best for that; just pure green grass that perfectly scratches the skin, even better than a human can.

Pure delight is what this photo represents. So remember, just bc the years have creeped up, it doesn’t mean you have to skip out on what makes you happy. We hope this week you, too, can enjoy what puts a smile on your face.
