Ready Central Texas | City of Austin 24/07/2026

The City of Austin is under a Heat Advisory issued by the National Weather Service.

Maximum heat indices of 108 to 112 degrees can be expected. Extreme heat can quickly cause heat-related illness, especially for older adults, young children, people with chronic medical conditions, outdoor workers, and those without access to air conditioning.

All Austin Public Library and Austin Parks facilities can serve as a Cooling Center during normal operating hours. Service animals are permitted in City facilities. Check hours of operation before arriving. Please monitor local news for up-to-date weather information and visit ReadyCentralTexas.org on how to be prepared for summer weather.

Central Texas is under an Extreme Heat Warning through tonight, 7/22/26, from noon to 8 p.m., with temperatures expected to reach 103 degrees and a heat index of 115.

Tips to avoid developing symptoms of heat related illness include:
• Stay hydrated by taking regular breaks to drink water, even if you are not thirsty.
• If working or playing outdoors, take regular shade breaks to cool off.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
• Wear a brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Don't forget your pets. Be sure to bring plenty of water with you if walking or exercising with your dog and have a collapsible bowl for them to stay hydrated as well. Protect their paws. If it is too hot to touch the pavement for 7 seconds with your hand, it is too hot for paws.

Know the signs of heat related illnesses . Heat exhaustion can quickly progress to heat stroke, a life-threatening emergency. If you suspect heat stroke, remember: Move them. Cool them. Call 9-1-1.

Cooling Centers are available at Austin Parks recreation centers and Austin Public Library branches during regular hours. Locations can be found at austintexas.gov/alerts [austintexas.gov].

Please check on neighbors who may be more vulnerable, including older adults, young children, pregnant individuals, people with chronic conditions, and those who work outdoors.

Trinity Center grew from the concern of parishioners of St. David’s Episcopal Church for people experiencing homelessness, their downtown “neighbors,” who were living in shelters or on the streets near the church. Trinity Center was founded by volunteers and is based on a model of action through volunteerism.

Trinity Center is happy to announce their Enhanced Cooling Center begins today! They will be extending their hours from 1pm-7pm, Monday-Thursday. This program will continue through the end of September. Fridays they will only be open from 9am-1pm.

During these extended hours, they will continue to provide their basic services, while also expanding their offerings. They will be providing up to 20 showers during extended hours, day-sleep opportunities throughout the afternoon, and a 4pm meal from various providers and volunteers.
