Nonprofit working to improve the welfare of animals in Southern Southeast Alaska. We are an all-volunteer organization.

Ketchikan Humane Society is a tax exempt, non-profit organization dedicated to helping to improve the welfare of animals in Southern Southeast Alaska. We are not currently rescuing or fostering animals but we are trying to help shelter animals to get adopted by providing photos, videos and biographies of available animals on social media. We also provide a Spay Neuter Incentive Program (SNIP) where we help offset the cost of a spay/neuter surgery for folks who need financial assistance to alter an animal they own. (Our application is pinned to our Facebook Homepage!)

Finally we have funds available for feral cat Trap-Alter-Release. These funds are for feral kittens or cats with a caretaker who will release the cats to their trap location within 24-hours of surgery. Please email us for a copy of the TNR Agreement and more information.

ADOPTED!

Meet Sasha! She is the ONLY ANIMAL AT THE SHELTER right now!!

Her tag doesn’t indicate whether she has been spayed yet. She is a bit cautious but so sweet. My guess is she is a Weimaraner-Pit-Mutt mix.

THANK YOU to whomever adopted Snowball. ❤️🐶

Meet Sasha at the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter Monday - Saturday 10 AM - 5 PM.

Jack is a neutered adult male German Shepard. I have not yet met him - and he does not come to the gate to meet me- so I have no insight into his temperament yet. He is beautiful!

Remember not to judge a temperament by its cage behavior!

Meet Jack and other animals available for adoption at the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter Monday through Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM

Meet our shelter’s most challenging assignment.

Snowball is a beautiful blue-eyed girl who desperately wants to connect with people… but she’s convinced the world is a very scary place.

She’s not looking for someone who wants an instant best friend. She’s looking for someone who understands that trust isn’t built in a day. Or a week. Sometimes it’s built one treat, one quiet conversation, and one brave step at a time.

What she needs is Patience, Consistency, Confidence, More patience. Did we mention patience?

What you’ll get in return?

The kind of bond that can’t be bought, rushed, or manufactured. The kind earned by showing up again and again until one day she decides you’re her person.

Some dogs are easy.

This girl is a masterpiece under construction.

Snowball is not yet spayed. She can still be adopted- she just can’t go home with you until after the surgery. She is also estimated to be just one year old.

I ran her through two dog scanner engines and they came up with different results. I definitely see some American Bulldog in her. She is a fine mutt!

Meet Snowball at Ketchikan Gateway Borough Animal Shelter Monday - Saturday, 8 AM - 5 PM.
