Empowering people on their path to safe and healthy relationships.. Yankton is a small, close knit community. Yankton is NOT immune to family violence.

Celebrating 50 years of service, we stand with our community to end domestic & sexual violence through advocacy, prevention, and support. A community where people band together to help the greater good. Sometimes these wonderful things our community is known for, can mask some of the struggles our community faces. Family violence is a growing issue in our community. It is up to all of us to band together. If you witness family violence, we encourage you to report it- we encourage you to be safe, but that does not mean ignoring the problem if you see it happening. When you reach out and help a person who is struggling with violence in the home... you never know how many lives you may be saving.

On Saturday, September 26, members of the General Federation of Women's Clubs participated in our 4th Annual International Day of Service—focusing globally on ending domestic and sexual violence.

Thanks to everyone's generosity, they collected and donated tons of essential supplies to support Waypost and the individuals they serve.

Thank you to everyone who donated supplies, packed vehicles, and helped raise awareness for this vital cause!

Community in action! 🧸✨

This past Saturday, the Yankton Area Toy Run hosted a fantastic event packed with a poker run, raffles, a live band, and incredible community spirit.

We are honored and so thankful to be the recipients of the donations raised. Pictured are Marcia Root and Brian Buchman with our Waypost staff, surrounded by some of the fantastic toys that will go directly to children in our community.

Thank you to the organizers, participants, and donors who made this day so special! 💙

💜 Go Purple This October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month! 💜

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), and we are calling on our incredible local businesses, neighbors, and community members to help us shine a light on this critical cause!

Here are a few creative ways you can paint the town purple and help raise awareness:

🎨 Chalk the Sidewalks: Leave inspiring and supportive messages for survivors on public walkways.

🖼️ Paint Your Windows: Decorate your storefront or home windows with purple paint, ribbons, or window display art.

💜 Create Purple Displays: Light up your porch, hang purple decorations, or display educational posters in your business.

Want to help us make a direct impact?
We are currently accepting Raffle Basket Donations to raffle off at our annual Candlelight Vigil on October 22nd.

📍 Basket Drop-Off Info:
We will be downtown collecting baskets on Wednesday, October 2nd, at Celebrate Church.

Whether you’re decorating a storefront, making a donation, or attending our vigil, your support shows survivors that our community stands with them. Let’s unite to bring hope, awareness, and change this October!

✨ Employee Spotlight: Leah Nedved ✨

Meet Leah Nedved, one of our On-Call Advocates who joined the Waypost team in January 2025! Leah is motivated by knowing that even on someone’s hardest day, she can remind them that they aren’t alone and help them find safety, hope, and a way forward.

For Leah, Waypost’s mission is about helping survivors regain what abuse can take away—their voice, choices, and control over their lives. She believes survivors deserve support, resources, and the ability to choose what their own path to safety and healing looks like.

Leah hopes everyone understands that domestic violence and sexual assault can happen to anyone. Leaving isn’t always simple or safe, and it is never the survivor’s fault.

Outside of Waypost, Leah is a mom of two boys, a full-time RN, and a volunteer with her local ambulance service. She also loves spending weekends at the racetrack with her family—and even participates in drag racing! 🏁

We’re grateful for the compassion, experience, and dedication Leah brings to Waypost and to those who need someone in their corner. 💚

Turns out wearing pajamas to work comes with a major side effect… extreme drowsiness. 😴

Happy Spirit/Homecoming Week! We celebrated PJ Day today, but we quickly realized that dressing for sleep makes the body want to sleep. Send coffee (and maybe a pillow) or we might not make it to 5 o’clock! ☕️✨
