I don’t ask for help often, but I need it.
I did everything New Jersey asked me to do. I raised capital, created jobs, became the first and only operational Black woman-owned manufacturer in the state, and built products consumers genuinely love.
Today, I am fighting for my business.
I am being told that statutory barriers prevent innovation and expansion, but I refuse to believe that the answer is simply “sorry.”
I need connections to the people who can actually change these laws.
Legislators. The Governor’s Office. Policy advisors. Anyone who can help put me in the room.
Because if my business fails after doing everything right, what message does that send to every minority entrepreneur considering entering this industry?

Woke up to this email this morning and I’m so overwhelmed with emotion.
Yesterday I spent nearly an hour on the phone with one of ButACakes Angels and I expressed being EXHAUSTED to my max. I cried to my parents and finally told them out loud that I’m ready to quit 💯
But somehow …. This email just bought me one more day of trying. Because ultimately… messages like that are literally the reason why ButACake exists.
