Gateway Rescue Mission
Gateway Rescue Mission meets the needs of the homeless through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Gateway Rescue Mission was founded by Captain Len Martin of the Jackson Fire Department in 1948. Captain Martin was compelled to help the homeless, and Gateway Rescue Mission remains faithful to the charge to this day. Offering hope through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Gateway Rescue Mission is committed to providing those in need with shelter, food, clothing, and rehabilitation. Our programs include 40 beds for men struggling with addiction, meals for our residents and a lunch that is provided 365 days a year to serve the homeless and hungry coming in from the streets. Check out our website at www.GatewayMission.org for more information or to donate to help us help those most in need. Gateway Rescue Mission is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit and religious organization, and is 100% funded by private donations from individuals, churches, foundations, and businesses. Sales of donated items at our thrift store located in Pearl, MS also helps to support our ministry.

What a day! Thank you, UMMC School of Nursing!
Yesterday, senior nursing students from the UMMC School of Nursing spent the whole day serving at Gateway, and they didn't slow down once:
* Taught the 10am class for our residents
* Helped serve lunch
* Came back and taught the 1:30pm class
* Offered health screenings
* Stayed to help serve dinner
These future nurses are with us this fall through their Population-Based Nursing course, building health education designed specifically for the people we serve. Our residents learned a lot, and our guests were cared for at every meal.
Let's go!!!

"Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10
Thank you to the ladies of Queen Makeda Chapter 699 , Order of the Eastern Star, for serving lunch at Gateway yesterday!
This group keeps coming back to share a meal and a smile with our guests, and it means more than they know. Every plate served is a reminder that our neighbors are seen, valued, and loved.
We're grateful for their faithful service, and we can't wait to welcome them back in November!

"Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee." (Mark 10:49)
What a night! We were blessed to welcome Lead Pastor David Strain and our friends from First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, MS for dinner, worship, and the Word.
Brother David preached from Mark 10 on blind Bartimaeus, a man sitting by the roadside whom the crowd tried to silence. Jesus stopped, called him close, and asked, "What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?" Bartimaeus received his sight and followed Jesus down the road.
That's the heart of Gateway. No one here is overlooked or left on the roadside. Around the tables, men and women shared a meal and real conversation. In the chapel, voices rose together in worship!
Thank you, First Presbyterian, for loving your city in such a tangible way. Jesus is still stopping for the ones others pass by, and He's still calling them by name.
Together, we're working to Restore Life to Jackson.

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat…" — Matthew 25:35
A big thank you to the students of Jackson State University's W.E.B. Du Bois–Maria Luisa Alvarez Harvey Honors College for serving lunch with us!
These scholars rolled up their sleeves, put on their gloves, and showed up for their neighbors with smiles and servant hearts. The Honors College is committed to raising up civically engaged leaders who bring real solutions to their community, and today that commitment looked like a hot meal and a kind word for every man, woman, and child who walked through our doors.
Jackson is better because of students like these. Together, we're working to Restore Life to Jackson, one meal, one conversation, and one life at a time.
Thank you, JSU Honors College. You're welcome back anytime!

"Taste and see that the Lord is good." (Psalm 34:8)
We were blessed this week by a group of students from Mississippi Christian University who spent their afternoon serving dinner to our neighbors!
Sari, Sofia, Peyton, Gunner, and Mitchell came to us as part of Dr. Perkins' Faith and Business Ethics class, and they jumped right in, plating tuna sandwiches, mac and cheese, and chips with smiles and servant hearts.
The best part? This isn't a one-time visit. They'll be back for more serving opportunities this semester before presenting on their experience. We can't wait to see them again!
Thank you, MC, for raising up young leaders who put their faith into action.

A Thirst-Quenching Blessing from Johns Manville !
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink..." — Matthew 25:35
This week, our friends at Johns Manville brought their Global Community Day to Gateway Rescue Mission — and they didn't show up empty-handed! They brought water in mass for all those in need!!!
In Jackson's heat, clean water isn't a luxury — it's a lifeline. Thanks to this crew, our guests will be drinking a little easier for weeks to come.
We especially love that their own company values include "Strong Faith" — because when faith shows up in work boots and gets to serving, that's the Gospel in action.
Johns Manville, you didn't just bring water. You brought hope, dignity, and a reminder that our community shows up for its own. Thank you for choosing Gateway for your Global Community Day!

Grateful for the Flowood Rotary Club !
Today the Rotary Club of Flowood showed up ready to work — serving up a hot lunch with big smiles, gloved hands, and zero complaints about the cafeteria trays. Watching this crew fall into an assembly line like they'd done it a hundred times reminded us what "Service Above Self" looks like in real life.
But they didn't stop at lunch. They also brought a box full of personal care items. All the everyday essentials that make a real difference for our guests. We want to tell you it sat around for a while... but honestly, it was gone almost before we finished unpacking it. Turns out when you bring exactly what people need, they notice.
To the Rotary Club of Flowood: thank you for being the hands and feet of God's love in our community today. We're grateful for friends like you who show up, serve well, and leave things better than they found them.
Matthew 25:35 — "For I was hungry and you gave me food."

When Flowood Rotary Club said they were bringing "a large amount" of water, we pictured a few cases. What showed up looked more like a small mountain!
We're so grateful for partners who don't just say they'll help — they show up and then some. This water will keep our guests hydrated for weeks to come. Thank you, Flowood Rotary Club, for your generosity and for being the hands and feet of God's love in our community.

I want to give a shout-out to our friends at Ross & Yerger Insurance, Inc. for coming out and serving with us today.
What gets me every time with this team is their heart for the people we serve. They don't show up to check a box — they show up ready to work, to listen, and to love on those we serve here at Gateway like they matter. Because they do.
And here's the thing that really stands out to me: Ross & Yerger has been serving alongside us for years now. But instead of sending the same handful of people over and over, they keep bringing new folks from their team into the experience. That tells you something about a company — they value this enough to want more of their people to feel it for themselves, not just keep it to a select few.
Grateful for partners like this. Thank you, Ross & Yerger, for your continued heart for our community!
