TJ GRAVES RACING & HPG MOTORSPORTS CLAIMS OPENING NIGHT VICTORY!

WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ May 18th, 2025- An unpredictable day full of geometry & handling gremlin’s is not what TJ Graves Racing had planned this past Saturday night. Graves picked up his second consecutive opening night victory to begin the 2025 Season at Wall Stadium Speedway. Graves noted, “I’m very thankful that I was able to get off work early to attend practice. I always enjoy the hard fought battles with my teammates and fellow competitors this year. We had a very rough start but as the day progressed we gradually got comfortable and were able to secure the victory for opening night”.

The team awaited TJ’s arrival, unfortunately we missed the first round of practice but we did take full advantage of practice session #2 and quickly discovered some rear end geometry issue that needed immediate attention. A extensive assessment was done and we were forced to leave the race track and head to the race shop to get the necessary parts to complete the repair.

The car was put back together and we were able to get a very brief 3 lap practice in but experienced some new issues that needed immediate attention. The car immediately went up on jack stands to review everything and made sure the car remains neutral. After several adjustments we waited until heat race time to test everything out.

Heat races were next on the agenda for the evening. Rolling off 4th Graves was on the attacking side. Being in the outside lane allowed Graves to see what the car was handling like to make necessary adjustments for the feature. Graves battled hard side by side for several laps before Graves made contact with the outside wall and made contact with the inside car. Graves settled for 2nd Place which set us up to start Third in the 25 Lap Feature.

Once Heats Concluded, the team wasted no time assessing any new damage and quickly went to making several adjustments. The team debriefed about handling adjustments based off the Weather. The team pulled out our notebook and put in what we felt we had the best car control with last season.

Graves rolled out for the feature and wasted no time putting the loud pedal down. The track conditions were very comfortable for Graves and his car began to pick up speed in charge towards the leader. An early yellow flew for a mechanical issue with a car stopped on the track and Graves enjoyed the caution to regroup and think about being either conservative or stating aggressive. For 2025 all races are cone races and Graves was able to move up from 3rd position up to 2nd for the restart. After the restart lap Graves was settled in 3rd place making a charge towards the leaders. A few laps later Graves was into 2nd position trying to keep pace with the leader. Graves utilized lap traffic to gain time but the leader was beginning to experience mechanical issues and Graves overtook the lead. Graves started to experience some mechanical issues but was able to survive the next few laps until the checkered flag flew. “ I can’t thank my crew enough for all the work they do. We had a horrendous day and definitely didn’t have the best car tonight. This was my teammates win but unfortunately he broke. Hopefully this is a start to early success and we will be able to have the car fully dialed in for the next event”. Graves Quoted
