I once convinced a group of Cub Scouts to try sardines. The harder sell? The adults. šš
My latest article covers my lifelong appreciation for fish, what I look for when buying it, and a few ways to enjoy itāfrom sardines on crackers to charcoal-grilled snapper.

Apparently, bread needs a defense. š
I grew up hearing about Atkins, and all these years later weāre still having some version of the same conversation. Carbs are the problem. Eat fewer of them.
I question that.

Hey, Iām Dr. Arrington š Iām a licensed naturopathic physician and the person behind Moon Ridge Medicine.
My background is in microbiology, medicine and teaching. I love talking about food, health, and how our bodies work. I want people to understand their health and feel comfortable asking questionsāincluding the ones they think are weird.
Outside of medicine, Iām usually cooking, or looking for an excuse to get outdoors.
Youāll find a little of all of that here. Glad youāre following along!

š„ I love recommending pickles, but thereās more to the ingredients than you might think. Benefits from them depend on whether they are a true fermented vegetable or vinegar-pickled. That little detail makes a difference.

Calorie counting may give us a number, but it cannot explain the full picture of appetite, metabolism, food quality, or the many factors influencing our health. The same critical thinking should be applied to any promise of rapid weight lossāwhether it comes from a quick-fix program or a medication.
My latest article offers a glimpse of what the talk was about:

Coffee is usually discussed as if caffeine is the only thing that matters. It isnāt.
Coffee contains hundreds of other compounds, including polyphenols that may contribute to some of its observed health effects. The bean, roast, grind, brewing method, and what you add afterward can all change what ends up in the cup.
I wrote this article about approaching coffee with a little more intention, without turning it into either a miracle beverage or something everyone needs to avoid.

Your gallbladder is more than a storage pouch for bile. It plays an important role in digestion, nutrient absorption, hormone metabolism, and gut health.
If you've ever wondered why gallbladder problems can affect much more than digestion, this article is for you.
Read it here: https://moonridgemedicine.com/articles/hormones-nutrition-and-digestion-why-the-gallbladder-matters

The gallbladder is often described as ānon-essentialā because we can survive without it.
That is true. It is also incomplete.
The gallbladder stores and concentrates bile, helping the body digest fats, absorb fat-soluble vitamins, regulate the gut environment, and coordinate with hormones, cholesterol metabolism, and the microbiome.
For some people, gallbladder removal is medically necessary and appropriate. Still, digestion can change afterward, and those changes deserve thoughtful support.
In the latest article by Dr. Arrington, he discusses why the gallbladder matters for hormone health, nutrition, digestion, bile acids, gut microbes, and life after cholecystectomy.
