We are proud to celebrate Sierrah Chavis, our Director of Development, on her selection to the inaugural Future Moguls Executive Accelerator @ The Mecca, presented by the DC Chamber of Commerce and Howard University School of Business Office of Executive Education.

A DMV native and University of North Texas alumna, Sierrah earned a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Social Work and Sociology before earning a Master of Education in Special Education and Secondary Education. As a mother who began raising her children at 19 and 22 while in college, her personal and professional experiences have shaped a career grounded in service, education, and opportunity.

The seven-session Future Moguls program brings together emerging business and civic leaders for executive education focused on leadership, strategy, innovation, government contracting, executive negotiations, and community impact.

We’re excited to celebrate Sierrah as she joins this inaugural cohort and continues to grow her leadership and expand her impact in the DC community!

Standing with student parents has an impact that reaches beyond the classroom. When student parents have the support they need to stay enrolled and complete their degrees, their children, families, campuses, and communities benefit, too.

Student parents are college students too, yet they often go through college alongside the responsibilities of raising a family.

Tomorrow, our Director of Learning & Innovation, Dr. Tia Dolet, is joining Inceptia and Bossier Parish Community College for a conversation about what colleges can do to better support student parents and strengthen enrollment, retention, and completion.

Student Parent Month is still underway, and today we’re celebrating Mukta Ghorpadey, a Generation Hope mentor whose story is rooted in community and showing up for others.

Mukta’s mother once built a lifelong friendship after meeting another Marathi-speaking woman in an Indian grocery store. That friendship became part of the community that raised Mukta — and shaped her belief that we all have a responsibility to consider what we have and how we can use it to support others.

As a Generation Hope mentor, Mukta brings that belief to her relationship with Scholar Sahdari Simmons. She listens, offers guidance, and when Sahdari faced an emergency, Mukta turned to her own community for support.

Today, we’re asking North Texas to invest in student parents.

Generation Hope launched our Dallas–Fort Worth Scholar Program in 2025 — rooted in community voice, equity and the evidence behind two-generation approaches. In our first year, we partnered with 9 local colleges and several community organizations while providing Scholars with tuition assistance, mentoring, mental health resources and career training.

The results are encouraging: 100% of participating Scholars have remained enrolled in the program, and 70% maintained at least a 2.5 GPA last semester. We are currently serving 23 families across the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area, and 3 out of 4 Scholars are first-generation college students.

As Aniyah Johnson, one of our Scholars, shared: “Generation Hope has provided resources and experiences that support me not only as a student pursuing my degree or a mother but overall personal development.”
