Same dealership. Same night. Two legends.
1960. The lights are on at CHRYSLER • PLYMOUTH • DESOTO and the new models just rolled out. On the left, the flamboyant DeSoto with those iconic fins. On the right, the clean and mean Plymouth with the 413 under the hood.
Red or turquoise? Front view or rear view? You can't go wrong.

In 1955, it created a whole new class.
Chevrolet had the Corvette — rough, sporty, slow-selling. Ford's Frank Hershey and Bill Boyer did something smarter: a two-seat convertible with a V8 standard, but with roll-up windows, power seats, and real comfort.
Motor Trend called it "a clever wedding of sports-car functionalism and American standards of comfort."
Buyers got it instantly. 16,155 sold in year one — 23 times the Corvette. The personal luxury car was born — leading to 4-seat T-Birds, Riviera, Monte Carlo and a 50-year segment.
Not a sports car. Something better for America.
