🚨 KANSAS CPR & AED GRANT FUNDING IS NOW AVAILABLE! 🚨

KDHE is now accepting applications for $750,000 in grant funding to help Kansas organizations provide CPR/AED training and purchase or maintain AEDs.

Funding is available for eligible:

🏫 Public & nonpublic school districts
⛪ Religious & charitable organizations
📚 Libraries
🪶 Tribal entities

The funding was authorized through Kansas House Bill 2513 and is designed to expand access to lifesaving CPR training and AED equipment across Kansas — with an emphasis on rural communities.

💰 Available funding includes:
• $500,000 for AED purchases and/or maintenance for eligible school districts
• $125,000 for CPR & AED training for eligible school districts
• $125,000 for AED purchases and/or maintenance for eligible non-school entities

Applications are being accepted through April 30, 2027, or until funding is exhausted. The first round of application reviews begins October 1, 2026, with applications reviewed on a rolling basis.

Keeping the friends and family of Firefighter Ty Voth in our thoughts and prayers today. Ty sacrificed his life on this day 2 years ago in the line of duty.

It was two years ago today that we lost our brother, Firefighter Ty Voth. We hope you'll join us in taking a moment to remember him, and his selfless dedication to serving our community.

“I was lucky I was in the right place with the right people. CPR saved my life.”

Edward was dancing the fox trot when he collapsed. On the floor, his skin began turning purple.

A fellow dancer called 911. Three other dancers -- Jennifer, Kelsey and Demetrius -- started Hands-Only CPR. They took turns performing chest compressions until emergency responders arrived.

Edward needed CPR because he was in cardiac arrest, which in his case was caused by a heart attack. Edward had quadruple bypass surgery to restore blood flow to his heart.

Two months later, Edward was back on the dance floor. He credits his fast return to competitive dancing to his fellow dancers who have CPR training.

“The fact that I went down where so many people knew CPR is the reason I’m here,” he said.

Edward is a part of the inaugural Nation of Lifesavers class, a group of five CPR survivors and rescuers sharing their stories to help more people be ready in a cardiac emergency. His twin brother, Wallis, who performed CPR to save a friend, is also a member.

“If somebody goes down and they need help, if you’ve got the training, don’t feel intimidated, just do it. If not for Jennifer, Kelsey and Demetrius giving me CPR before responders arrived, things would not have turned out so well for me.”

CPR has a new country soundtrack!

The American Heart Association recently teamed up with country artist Ella Langley to highlight CPR awareness — and her hit song “Choosin’ Texas” just happens to line up with the recommended CPR compression rate of 100–120 beats per minute.
